First Blackline mod? '-)

My comment inferred that DIY retroffiting a heated seat element may not be the cleverest and safest solution..

why not? I don't see why you had to point out it was a dangerous thing? It isn't at all if you get all the right kit, like retrofitting anything from cruise control to sat-nav units. It just appeared a comment that was unnecessary. A better comment would have been "Good luck, hope you get all right parts to get it working" rather than inferring by retrofitting heated seats you could cause a fire or something else serious. That's just the way your comment (the match to the fire if you will) came across, and I (and the mod team) will be sticking by that.

Should be perfectly possible to retro fit heated seats or any option to one of the modern cars, don't know the costings but every part has a number and is order-able from a dealer.

Just a case of doing your homework finding out what bits you need and maybe a bit of VCDS coding to activate a module.

Don't think from looking in the past the heated seat has a module as they arm manually controlled on the retro fit style just need a live and an earth... unless we get tricky with timer settings and and full thermostated controlled.... that sound like fun :) excuse typos. On phone.

At least we have established the ground rules. Dabbling in DIY eletric installations is actually particularly dangerous if your not qualified. This is however irrelevant as you have clearly missed the point. Why on earth would i say "Good luck, hope you get all right parts to get it working" when that isnt my point? Opening up a seat and fitting heating elements DIY style is potentially dangerous if not done correctty. If it turns out it isnt if you get all the right parts then that would have been a more measured response rather than "D##K".

If thats the way you think my comment came across then i can confirm you have misinterpreted it.

Having more mods back you up on this changes nothing.

I did actually try and measure my own response after being called a d1ck as i stupidly imagined this is how you would prefer it handled but at least now your position on this has been established.

Anywho im off to entertain my 6 month old daughter before she goes to bed so i wish you goodnight.

Good grief! I pop out to earn a crust for a few hours and its all gone pete tong. The tone of this thread was made perfectly clear from the start with more than one smiley face. I posted a pic of a rather crappy looking solution to an observation that it was cold one morning at 2am, nothing more. Next this its all square go here there and name calling, then the gammon appear (mods) to calm it all down.

At least Jock is away to now do something productive with his time than setting fires on a forum..

Of to have my curry and a bottle of red... Yes i know it wont go very well but i am uncouth :giggle:

I thought forums were all about people expressing opinions. I am sorry but this is a ridiculous piece of "moderating".

I do have to say i had heated seats in my S40 and all i found was they gave me a sweaty arse, but each to their own good luck to you if you fancy fitting them

See, this is the problem with leather. Too cold in winter and scorching in summer. I wouldn't choose it again. My forester was good as they were heated and fabric seats which seems rare. It's a shame it had a drink problem! ;)

As for retrofit, I would have thought the only option is to replace the whole set with one from a breaker including the buttons etc. Which seems a lot of effort and a shame in a new car. just put a towel on the radiator and then take it out to sit on when you leave :)

Ill consider the bandwagon well and trully jumped on. Setting fires was never the intention. I'll hold my hands up, guilty as charged for responding to comments from certain D##K's but i wont apologise for light hearted comments that are consequently misinterpreted. I am not responsible for "peoples interpretation" and the fact i had been contributing to the thread previously should have easily highlighted any "intent" in my posts.

I cant be expected to cater to the lowest common denomenator although they do seem to get involved and subsequently defended.

Enjoy your curry as i am the biggest curry fan in the world but i'll be enjoying a white with mine. Not because im "couth" but red is rank.

The other one is a big fan, but I never use them. But then I'm hot stuff. With or without the curry. I've turned into not much of a fan of the leather apart from the look and easier to keep clean. Too sticky in the French sun.

Just got back after a 4 hour journey in my car, half leather VRS seats and have had the heated seats on the lowest setting all the way back as it was bloody freezing and they were wonderful, over the last few years I have had heated seats in most of my cars and being honest I love them, I accept some people dont like or want them but on a car with full leather in my view they are essential I think with the Blackline they missed it there, I am guesing as a factory fit option on my VRS they were about £250 with the VAT discount, so I am guessing Skoda UK probably pay £200?? or something like that, and if they had done that on the Blackline it would of solved all of these people moaning (quite rightly too) about the lack of heated seats on the full leather, its something which seems so monir when you order the car but like the OP says when he is off to work at 3am in the middle of winter Skoda are probably getting a lot of cursing!!!

Should heated seats come with the Black line? Yes probably.

Is it vital to have heated leather? No, like most said, they are only used once in a while for a few minutes each time.

There is a alternative... Alcantra... got it on my L&K. Honestly had the VRS at the time had black Alcantera and a MFSW then I think I would be in one now!

I had alcantara in my BMW but i was always paranoid about keeping it clean. Saying that it scubbed up ok whan i gave it a once over before selling it. Another issue was it seemed to "crease" very easily just through general use so not sure how well it would stand up over time in compasison to leather etc.

For me seats are seats. Its more important that they are comfy and the actual finish of the seat doesnt really contribute much to this however the leather in the missus car has been invaluable as that is the car we mostly transport the dog and baby at the same time which inevitably means prams etc stuffed in, on and around the seats. They clean up very easily and have stood up to the abuse extremely well. I have lost count of the the number of cold starts in her car and i must admit the seat heaters are a welcome addition if not an essential one. Plenty of things in life are not essential but we still prefer them.
