Windscreen Fit / Alignment

Featured Replies

Hi there.

This morning our dealer sent a guy to fit a new windscreen to our Octavia. We noticed a crack in it before purchase and they said they said it would be fixed.

On closer inspection I have noticed that the fit does not seem quite right. Inside, along the top of the dashboard the glass seems "nearer" on the passenger side - for example, you can feel the winscreen demister vents on the drivers side but it is too tight on the passenger side.

The problem is, I didn't see if it was like this before the windscreen was changed! Can anyone confirm whether all Octavias have this "non-level" look between the dash and the windscreen, or whether this guy has put our windscreen on wonky!

Thanks ...

Just checked my 2002 4X4. There is less space between the dash and the windscreen on the LHS than the RHS, ie my fingers are a tight fit on the left and have room to move fore and aft on the right.

Fascinating - and thank you for checking. Does your windscreen / dash also look "closer" on the passenger side (if sitting in the drivers seat)?

Yes. Does the windscreen fit look OK when checked from outside? It should be obvious from an external check if something is wrong with the fit.

Yes. All seems pretty much okay from the outside actually. Perhaps this is one of those things that I convinced myself wasn't right?

I don't recall this sort of assymetry on other cars I've owned though - certainly our Fabia wasn't like it.

Actually, I wonder if the dashboard is like this on all Octavias? What are other people's like?

go down the motorway at a 100 if it sounds like ur in a wind tunnel it needs re fitting!

Ahh,

I've been getting a strange wind noise from the corner of the dash where the 'A' pillar meets the bonnet. It only comes on at 'high' speeds or if driving in windy conditions (outside the car that is :D )

When it was last at the dealer I mentioned it but they couldn't even hear it so I took them out on a test drive. They seemed to think it was a loose bonnet release cable needless to say the problem is still there even after the bonnet cable has been secured.

From what I've read above it could be the seal around the windscreen, wonder if they'll go for a replacing that under warranty...????

I will also check the alignment of the windscreen tonight.
