hello i have a mk1 skoda octavia tdi elegance

its been playing up a bit lately, clocks have been resetting themselves and giving me dodgy fuel reading after they reset (300 miles to a full tank is what it reads)

anyway its got alot worse lately , today when i started the car the clocks reset but when i stopped it wouldnt lock the car and the interior light wouldnt turn off, i plugged the code reader in and got the following codes:-

01321

01315

01336

01304

01299

00849

alot of codes say dtc in description

theres also a relay clicking under dash when rpm reaches 2500 but only until the car warms up a bit ,

ive resently changed thermostat and temp sensor

any light woukd be appreciated

Unsure about codes until later. But the relay clicking at 2500 revs is normal when cold. Clicks once on way up past 2500 and once on way down past.h

Most of these fault codes relate to communication isssues between varios modules on the car,either a wiring loom fault or your can gateway module is faulty.

The last fault code 00849 is a ignition switch issue again check wiring and fuses.

ok thanks for reply , can you expand o what you think the problem could be , when you say the loom do you mean the whole thing or just a section , can gateway faulty ??? :S

I would first try and fix the last fault code which is a igntion switch problem where one of the switched outputs is missing, this could possibly be causing the other errors,all the rest of the faults are can-bus communication faults betweem the varios electronic control units on the car, check as many wiring loom plugs as possible in the varios controllers, eg. instument panel, engine ecu, abs unit etc.The fact that nearly every unit on your car is showing a can bus fault points to the can gateway module which controls the communication can bus lines which run at different speeds depending as to whether it is a drive system or infortainment system.

.It is very difficult to give advice on these issues on line without knowing a persons capabilities,these can be difficult faults to rectify even for the most compitent engineer.
