G12 Coolant - can it be used in any car?

Featured Replies

May sound like a daft question, but I just wondered seeing as I have a bottle of G12 left, can I use it to top up my 106?

Having got used to the engine in the vRS that needed very specific fluids, I had a thought that some of the chemicals I have left would be fine to use in slightly less fussy engines.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

No. it can not be used in any engine.. Some Coolant Systems will require draining, flushing and still the correct coolant.

HOAT OR OAT, & do not mix the types, it is not a 'colour thing'.

The difference is if water based/mixed or not.

If you do not know what a previous owner has used, you are often better to drain and use what you do know.

^ +1, if in any doubt it's safest to drain down, flush and refill ;)

You cannot mix G12 with another type of coolant, to do so could lead to a chemical reaction turning your coolant to sludge. G12 can only be used to topup a cooling system that is known to already have G12 in it.

That plus different metals need different anti freeze as the react with some and not others.

Many thanks. I'll probably drain the system then and refill with the correct stuff. I'll find someone I know who can make use of the G12 then.
