Use of booster cables

Featured Replies

I was at work today, and had an interesting chat with Maggie.

I mentioned that the weather had got colder and I have my boot full of 'winter stuff' like blankets, snow shovel, tow rope, jump leads etc...

She warned me about the use of jump leads in so far as that their use can upset the ECU in modern cars.

Has anyone heard of any issues such as this, or had any experiences like this, or knows someone who has??????

Should I be concerned??

Not had a problem myself; jump started a few cars from the Monster, including my lads previous 03 Fabia when it's 8.5 year old battery finally gave up.

No  See pages 202-3 'Jump-starting' in the current (Sept 2012) Owner's Manual.

GREAT, thanks guys :)

Can you please post a link to the Sept 2012 owners manual....What if anyhing

had changed / been added??

Noticed a number of the recent manuals have deleted telling you what replacement light bulbs are needed, despite still giving you instructions how to change them; bizarre :wonder:

Anyway owners manuals can be found on the manufacturers main site;

I've just jumped a mates 59 plate octy this week, with no problems at all.

As long as safe practices are followed I can't see any issues with a jump start if/when needed

Thanks for link.

Too simple to expect Skoda UK to post manuals on the UK website...unless they've hidden it.

All documentation is on the main Skoda site, I don't know a single manufacturer who posts documentation on their local sites since to maintain such a setup will be very costly in man hours.

Each model designation on Briskoda has a link to this documentation stickied at the top to make it easier to find.

As co0stly as posting a Yeti configutator that doesn't work maybe (lol).

Easy to include a link to the main site for manuals? I mislaid mine in a move.

Same here, never had problems using jump leads.

I have read of instances where commercial "Boosters" as used by breakdown trucks have caused damage because of higher voltage spikes. I think it was on BMWs, but not 100% sure....

Had to jump start mine last week-end. No problems re electronics. Never have, although the first time with this car. Perhaps precautions such as making sure everything is off should be taken?

Someone parked the car in the road with flashers (also iggi and fan) on to stop the local idiot repeatedly driving though the flood outside our house and soaking everyone trying to get the drains working.
