Battery change makes a difference in drive?

Featured Replies

I was forced to change my Battery on one of my other non-Skoda Petrol cars yesterday. The old Battery had started showing signs of failure after 4.5 years of use and abuse.

After having changed it, I notice a clear smoothness in drive. Wanted to know if changing a Battery makes so much difference in driveability or is it just plain coincidence that the Car has started to perform better now?

Disconnecting the battery probably reset certain stored values in the ECU. ie the learnt driving style values.

It's an old car with no ECU, a direct Carburetor System.

Might be placiing less load on the alternator and so less power being used from the engine.

Might also be allowing a better spark etc if the old battery was very tired.

Also could have perked up the fuel pump too perhaps?

Very well could the the Alternator as there is less load on it now. Reminds me of the Dynamo's that were fitted to Bicyles, the higher the electrical load on them, the harder the Cycles were to pedal. With the new Battery in now, there is less load on the Alternator, freeing it from extra juice that was being demanded from it earlier.

Yes sounds plausible.

Just like the Toyota Yaris 1.0 we hired in Austrailia. If you had your foot flat to the floor you could feel the power drop when you turned the A/C on. Lol.

Ok, so Spark Plugs it is!

The Car is a 1996 "Maruti Suzuki 800":
