Also, on the picture on the Yahoo page, the second car in the queue is a Skoda Fabia!

2x high performance cars with low performance drivers

140mph

Near zero temps

After the crash the survivors fight with each other rather than helping the injured.

Darwin in action :wall:

Just plain bonkers.

I read about this in the paper... considering the speeds they were doing the cars seem to have survived remarkably well... and only 2 killed. Says something about modern car safety standards.

The remains: http://i.dailymail.c...644_636x593.jpg

Looks like two BMWs to me.

What on earth were they thinking?

By all accounts a 5 series being chased by a 7 series...with early/mid 20s drivers...

Indeed. Shocking stuff. Amazing how people could be so stupid. "but it's OK cuz it's gor traction control innit bruv"

Stolen? Drugs? Who knows - probably end up with a ban and miniscule fine :wall:

My first thoughts after hearing description and where the occupants came from was that it was likely gang related, especially after the "fighting after the crash" comment.

^ Yeah me too. I mean it seems odd to take three high end cars to see a "friend" and then return to London at 140mph...

...

I'd have thought that guys shifting drugs would mostly know to drive dull cars at the speed limit.

I think this was simply arses going fast.

It's interesting that the 140mph figure came from a wtiness who said that's the speed he reckoned they were doing when they drove past him. I'm impressed he was able to be so specific ;)

I had remained silent, but I was having "expert witness, yeah right" type thoughts too.

Never like to rear stuff like this, but keeps things in check for the rest of us IMHO (or so I like to think)

Article is a bit poor:

"Two cars involved in a motorway crash that killed two people and left six others injured were involved in a 'high-speed race', a witness has claimed.

Onlooker Basit Nasir said two BMWs were racing at 'foolish speeds' when the accident occurred on the M1 near Watford in Hertfordshire. ......

The driver and rear seat passengers of one of the cars were killed."

That's at least 3 people killed isn't it?

Thankfully, it wasn't more.

As soon as i red "BMW's" i thought, here we go again.

Tragic though but at least other motorists never got injured. As long as the passenger was willing obvioulsy.

Think it was on 5th gear i saw them crash a car at 120mph into a concrete block. Scary stuff. The sight of the wreckage turns your stomach. Even if it was young louts aresing about it still sucks plus their poor parents wil be devasted.

Said witness was probably doing 130mph and annoyed they went past him :);)

The standard of English from a lot of journalists these days is feckin terrible considering it's their trade.

That picture is rather sobering.

Mental! As said, shows how safe some cars are now days. Clearly drug or gang related going by the sounds of it.

Passengers is plural. So driver + passengers = 3 or more.

I'll be in pedants' corner if you need me.
