Moving up from Fabia 2 Greenline.

Featured Replies

Hi I have run a Fabia Greenline 2 for a year and a half and 40k with no problems.

Tha Fabia is a fine car but its a little big and heavy for just 1 or 2 people.

I am hopeing to save some money running a Citigo.

On a 15k PCP and free servicing with no VED hopefully it should need little more than petrol and tyres in the next couple of years.

I poped in to discuss this with Phill at Progress in Northamton and he had a car comming in so I had that one.I would of had an Elegance for choice but an SE was avalable and Phill chucked in the PID and had heated seats and sunset glass fitted before I picked it up.The person who ordered it specked briliant silver and style pack1 (apus 14"alloys) so thanks for that.

Initial thoughts :-

Wow the doors (3dr) are HUGE.

PID very comprehensive music streeming is great.

The car FEELS very light.

The front cup holder is to big my bottle of coke keeps falling over.

I have got over 55 mpg in 250 miles being faily easy on the car.

It'll be interesting to see how much you save.

I ran a Fabia GL2 for a year (20k miles) in 2011 and it was a good car.

Averaged 72mpg in that time (real figures, not from dash).

Bought VAT free it only devalued by around £1500 in a year.

The Citigo is more fun to drive, but if I am honest the Fabia had a better driving position because the steering wheel adjusts for reach.

I've done 3000 miles in the Citigo now in three months and averaged 57mpg in real terms. (63mpg on the PID).

So for the equaivalent 20k per year as a sole car (I use two) it'd use an extra 75(ish) gallons of fuel, which to me favours the GL2 if you are racking up the miles.

I found my MPG much better in the summer on my Citigo, your economy should improve once we're out of winter.

Good luck with your new car!

Don't overlook the fact that some of the higher diesel mpg has to be offset by the higher diesel over petrol cost.

That is true,but with the Smart,the petrol Smart does 40 MPG and the diesel Smart does 60 MPG. Take a 5 gallon fill. With diesel costing 9p a ltr more than petrol,that is about 40p a gall more. The petrol car does 200 miles on 5 galls,but the diesel does 300 miles.

Therefore the diesel does the extra 100 miles at an extra cost of £2. The petrol car would need an extra 2 1/2 galls to do the extra 100 miles at a cost of £15,so the diesel wins every time. Plus i bought the diesel car for the same price as the petrol,so it is win win.

I didn't think we were comparing the different Smart models though? :wonder:

I thought we were looking at the difference between a GL2 Fabia and a Citigo.

Under those circumstances, with the current cost of fuel per litre I make the Citigo about £167 more expensive per 10,000 miles based on my MPG figures in both cars.

GL2 = 10,000 miles / 72mpg = 631.3 litres x £1.38p = £871.21p

CG = 10,000 miles / 57mpg = 797.4 litres x £1.30p = £1,036.68p

Total saving by buying the diesel GL2 over 10k miles = £165.47p based on my average MPG figures and local fuel costs.

So if you don't do a lot of miles it's definately cheaper to have the Citigo. :thumbup:

Especially as the Fabia is more expensive in eco-diesel form, even with the VAT promotion.

The difference in cost is regional too. Today I noticed Tesco at 8p and a nearby popular Esso station at 11p per litre! :-(

I noticed the super unleaded (for my vRS) at my local BP was cheaper than deisel yesterday! :o

It is a few pennys per litre cheaper here too, which is handy as I run the Citigo on V power...

Is that method that I can use to get 180bhp out of my Citigo!! ;-)

No, but it stops you forgetting and putting regular unleaded in something you shouldn't. ;)

Can't hurt it anyway.
