standard air filter in a hybrid VRS!

Featured Replies

I've replaced my standard air filter with a Jabbasport cone in a box.

Upon taking out the old filter (FRAM), I was shocked to find it so dirty and not in the best shape

It was new at the end of August, and has covered approximately 8,000 miles.

I would not want to leave this in for 40,000 miles! eek! Probably not even 10,000 miles on a hybrid.

I'm just glad I bought the cone in a box when I did.

Personally a standards oem filter is A1 as I had a pipercross and it was sticky and lathered in oil after 6 months even less go oem as for me there better

Im hybrid and running oem. Change every 10k and there fine. There cheap as chips to buy...

That's nothing mine looked like this avabety6.jpg

ouch. I'm glad I changed mine before it ended up like this one....

Im after buying a cone on a box from them, let me know how it goes, sound, performance, quality...

I change all my filters every year amongst other things, they are dead easy to change, only with the oil change having to crawl around underneath.LOL

As I do all my own servicing, I save on labour charges, + E-Bay supplies the raw items I need.

Savings on garage labour charges @ £40 - £60 an hour, more than pays for my materials, for two years.

OUCH! Filtration is best with the OEM, and they flow enough air, even for hybrid, BUT we wont want a disintegrated one being sucked into the engine!

Have you driven with the new cone in a box filter yet Trebor? Give us a run down! :)

Quality is excellent.

For general driving, cruising, not any increase in sound levels.

Not really had a chance to really boot it yet, so will update on that.

I have found the engine to be more responsive, but the major problem is that the boost gauge went off the scale when I did try one quick boot up a hill this morning. Normally the gauge shows a peak of 28psi on a standard air filter. This morning it went past 30psi and off the scale! So I now urgently need Jabbasport to remap the engine, it needed doing anyway due to a different size hybrid and FMIC, but now its ultra urgent. This can only mean the inlet is less restrictive with the cone in a box.

Filtration might be good, but not sure if they they flow enough air for a hyrbid, and if it is strong enough to cope with the amount of air going through it at 28psi +

Yet another thing for the list then...!

EDIT: Purchased!
