Solar charger experiences/recommendation.

Featured Replies

Having starting issues as I don't use the car that often these days.

Have had the battery go flat twice, once last year and once.... yesterday. Both occasions, plonk it on charge and away we go after 2-3 hours charging.

I'm considering a solar panel to top-up the battery. have seen two of interest...

One a 1.5w offering from Maplin (350x125mm) so would clip to a sunvisor maybe.

The other, a "briefcase" type affair that's rated at 4w.

Maplin one is £10, the other, I've seen for £16-£22.

Hi

I would not bother, the Maplins on is useless, and the other one would just keep a fully charged battery topped up.

The Maplins one will give out .125 Amps and the Other one will give out .33 Amp, so with the internal resistance of

the battery and if still connected to the car any running things like the clock or alarm etc will be more than the charge

being put in.

Radiotwo

I have one of these http://www.amazon.co...f=pd_ys_iyr68?? and it

seems to work fine. Car starts first time even after 4 or 5 weeks without use.

Not sure how much power it feeds to the battery though.

My battery is in the boot so I leave the solar panel on parcel shelf and rear of car facing towards the sun (lol sun) and connect it directly onto battery terminals not aux power point.

Yes, the Visua one I've seen in several places. Have you got the 7 watt version then? Or the 4 watt, as they seem similar?

I've been mooting getting two of the Maplins ones and attaching them to the sunvisors or similar as they're only 5" wide. But if they're not beefy enough to do the job... :(

I have the 7 watt version . You could put it on your dash board and plug it into aux power point.
