Reverse Beeper Not Working

Featured Replies

The reverse beeper on my Elegance has stopped working, what could be the fault?.

Squirrels eating the wires

I didn't know these cars had beepers. Like a lorry? Or do you mean reversing sensors?

I had to replace the reverse switch on mine a couple of days ago, you will know if it's broken as your reversing lights won't come on.

Automatic geatbox i asume, most autos beep in reverse.

Dont know what the fault could be but i'd check the reverse lights as also suggested

Don't bother. You can buy a bulb complete with inbuilt beeper for pennies on Flea Bay.

Squirrels in the control unit have gone to sleep or are on break? :)

It bleeps when I put it into reverse and bleeps faster when I am close to something or it should do.

How do I do this?

Do they? Anyway, the OP has a 1.9 TDI so definitely not an auto.

He's talking about his parking sensors, not external reverse alarms as fitted to bin lorry's etc.

Turn the ignition on (don't start it), put it in reverse, get out and walk to the back of the car and see if the reverse lights are on. If they are, then your reverse switch is ok.

As above but if you get one long tone then all goes quite you could have a sensor fault.

For the sensors you either need to have the fault memory checked but sometimes you can put the ignition on without it running and put it in to reverse. Then go to each sensor in turn and see if you can hear them ticking very quietly. If they tick they are good but if one doesn't tick then it's faulty or the wiring is faulty.

The reverse lights come on. Will try the ticking test tomorrow.

The fuse had blown.

Just found this. Mine have randomly stopped working. Just an initial 'beep' then nothing

How do I do this?

alternatively, you could stay in the car, put the fan on, put it in reverse and the fan will go into 'recirc' mode automtically. You'll notice a distinct change in the sound of the fan.
