Changed glow plugs, 2 were wet

Featured Replies

Hi,

Today I changed the glow plugs on my 2004 TDI octavia (90bhp ALH engine code).

Very easy to do.

But 2 of the plugs I removed were wet, I presume it was diesel.

Starting is still a bit sluggish.

Is this injectors leaking?

I have a replacement set to fit if needed.

Anybody?

Have you checked that the glowplugs are getting power?

If it is cold enough for glowplug preheat, how long does the glowplug light stay on before you start?

Is there any black smoke on startup?

How many miles are on this car?

You could do a taste test on the liquid to see if you can tell what it is.

As for the sluggish starting - a friend had a similar problem but on a different car (Pug 406 2.0 HDI). He replaced the glow plugs and the battery and then discovered it was the starter at fault.

249k miles on car.

No black smoke.

Starter motor makes a "graunch" noise when the pinion disengages.

Glow plugs are getting power as if I turn the ignition on and off 3 times it starts fine.

I will plug in vcds lite at weekend.

Thanks for ideas guys.
