Getting deposit back...

Featured Replies

hi guys,

I put a deposit down ob a car last week. The agreement was that if the finance didnt go through I would get my deposit refunded. They are now faffing about giving me excuses about the person to do the refund not being in until next week. This was friday. I emailed again today to be told as they had previously said it would be next week. I replied that it was next week and now the final reply has been it will take as long as it takes end of.

I paid on visa debit....anything I can do? I never signed anything and have the email stating that a refund would be processed if the finance didnt go through.

You'll probably have to wait until the process the refund.

You also have another issue, in that I guess you now have a credit declined marker on your credit file. This means that for the next 6 months you will find it difficult / impossible to get finance elsewhere at a decent rate.

They said the reason for the decline was most likely the high mileage rather than me. Im not overly fussed tbh.

Im not happy!

Patience is a virtue :)

It's only Monday of the 'next week' in question. You'll get it back.

The more you pee them off, the longer they'll take if you're not careful.

At the end of the day calling on Friday, then monday morning isn't going to win you any friends.

If you've not signed anything and have the email off them, they've not got a leg to stand on. Just have patience, you'll get it back

Yeah, I think its just I was told on Friday it would be next week. Then today I'm still told 'next week' and then when I said that is is next week I get the stroppy 'it will take as long as it takes end of' email back...not very professional...

I would guess given the salesman has given you that response you've done or said something and ****ed him off!

Nope...nothing. Just queried why it would be another week...

Think they have upto 30 days to issue a refund.

If you are kept waiting any longer get in touch with your local office of Trading standards, tell them about your copy of the e-mail and the promise that was given verbally and about the lack of interest that you have encountered since the refusal.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago, the only difference was that I had a written offer. As soon as T.S. got involved the difference in service and attitude was astonishing.

The only potential problem I can see is that I was working under Scottish law and I see you will be operating under English law, I'm not sure but, there may be some differences, all I can say is try Trading Standards, at least they can give you correct information.

Best of luck mate!

Give them 14 days, then complain to your card company.

Simples.

As it was a debit card the card company can do nothing, only if a credit card was used do you have some comeback. A debit card does not have the same protection as a credit card and this is why you should always use a credit card to buy things online etc. For a debit card, you'll need to go to your bank and speak to them.

That's not correct if it's a visa debit card. The law may not state that's the case, but my bank directly told me that the change to visa was exactly so they could offer such a payment dispute/refund service as well as around fees etc.

Sorry but this is bobbins.

Only searches are recorded on your credit file, not the decision each company makes. There are no 'black marks' for having credit declined.

The closest thing to what you are talking about is a decrease in credit score for excessive credit applications. One search for one credit agreement would not flag anything untoward. 3 or more in a month or so would possibly start to flag.
