SE for sale on Gumtree for

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Haven't posted since I was looking at VRS and then since bought a BMW 3 series which after causing me to do a lot of window shopping to maybe get a VRS I found this apparent gem on Gumtree. I'm not actually thinking about getting a VRS at the moment due to the winter months and trying to sell a rear wheel drive BMW are just two things that don't go well together I thought I'd share this with you for anyone looking to get this bargain. I was going to phone the guy and ask a few questions (mainly about the price) but I can't be bothered so just so as you guys don't miss out, here's the link for anyone interested.

And no it's not mine for those thinking I'm tying to sell a car without membership. Just sharing the love because I'm in the Christmas spirit and what not!

Seems legit too! Bargain to be had there

That's what I thought! Looks like a tidy one as well and with that mileage? I'm just confused, someone is going to get a bloody bargain!!

Buy it Jack, if not just to turn a 3k profit on it lol

743 was a write off?

  • Author

Haha I would however my mother would not be happy about me blowing yet more money on cars than I already have! Doesn't look to me like it's been in a write off but even then you could buy it for that, strip it and still turn a profit!

This sounds far far to good to be true

Aside from the fact there were 1000 and not 800 made as stated. Also that there has been far less than half of those written off. Remapped to 187bhp? So it's running about 15-20bhp more than is safe on a PD130. A story given to make the sale a huge rush needing it gone before Christmas, along with it being up for 30-50% less than market value AND his willing to haggle! :D yeah sounds totally legit!

Exactly why I had to post it here, something can't be right! Looks really clean though and seems like the guy did have a genuine interest in it but I dunno. Yeah I just checked the register and noticed there was 1000! 57bhp out of a remap is surely unrealistic? You can barely get a normal one with those miles for that price let alone an SE

Edited by Jack.

It's unusual for scammers to stick up phone numbers and stuff, if it were closer I'd take a look!

But I certainly wouldn't transfer money and have his mate deliver it as seems common in the gumtree scams lol

Not doubting its a legit sale but Carnwath is very close to Lanark and your first post is a sales link :wonder:

Yeah I'm not sure about it!

That's exactly how I found it, I was looking in South Lanarkshire for cars but if I'm honest for such a small place I've never seen it around, if you would like to see a picture of my car I can most certainly post one to prove I'm not advertising! Plus I wouldn't be that tight not to pay for membership than bluff a sale. Not to mention not to be so stupid as to put that price!

Fair enough, no need to show a pic of your car. You have to admit though, it does seem very coincedental lol.

You might as well go have a look as it's so close to you then, fantastic bargain if it's legit.

Oh no arguing that, it is pretty coincidental but I'm not actually from Lanark it's just that's the closest place to my village people have heard of so I just roll with that even though I'm quite a bit further away from Lanark!

Right tell you what I'll give the guy a phone, arrange a meeting and go see it to let you guys know how it is but I'm not interesting in buying it. What if it's so cheap to entice people to come see it then when I get there it turns into the movie Taken or something? I hope I don't get mugged but I'll do it anyway.I might even try and see it tonight or tomorrow and see what the deal is because I'm genuinely intrigued to see what's wrong with it!

In fact get the bets in, what's going to be up with it?!

My money is on the engine won't start or something!

If i didnt have an SE already i'd be interested to see this in the flesh lol.

Afraid in this scenario "If its too good to be true, then it probably is."

Right I've spoken to my mate and he says he's willing to come with me if we can arrange with the person to see it so I've tried phoning and there was no answer so I left a message. I refuse to go see this by myself, Carnwath is not a nice place.

Its a fake, the guy on the line has no idea about no fabia etc... 99% a scammer hoping you will email! So everyone beware and take caution if you do carry on with it..

It is a very strange one indeed. He certainley knows what hes on about with the mods etc and is asking cash for fast sale to drive away. As mentioned most scammers run through email and ask balance transfers.

Hello my name is Augustus,

I love the monies, please transfer £3500 to my account in Zimbabwe.

May Jesus Christ be with you.

I text him about viewing the car earlier and he replied with "its away" :dull:

Please sir could I have your creditcard details! Lol

Well he never bothered to phone me back tonight which I don't find surprising. Something doesn't quite add up about it. If he does ever get back to me I'll go and have a look at it but seeing as how he's already told someone it's sold then he probably won't! I'll ask my pals that stay around that area and see if I can find out a bit more information about it and who it's been sold to. Who knows maybe someone will join the forum after buying it and wondering why there's no engine in it!

When you buy it you get a quote on a driveway too, potato!

Saw something very similiar like this earlier this year when I was in the market for one...

Guy was great, conversation was good until at the very end he dropped the "D-Bomb".

If its not a scam it has to be a category write off at that price I would say!

743 isn't on the register in fabia 1 forum, but its not to say the seats haven't come from a write-off shell. Seller appears a little clueless as he says 800 made, when actually it was 1,000.
