Fitting Garrett turbo GT1749VA (pd130)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking for some help here, particularly if you've done this modification.

I'm looking to replace my standard Fabia vRS KKK turbo with a Garrett GT1749VA (pd130) one, which I'll most likely hybridize before I get it fitted.

I've found a turbo that is bare, i.e no manifold. I thought this would just fit with my existing manifold. I've been told form somebody in the know that my standard manifold will not fit the Garrett. Can anyone clarify this for me?

What manifold do I need to get for this to work?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Joe

Eurgh sounds like hassle man, you'd be lucky to find the matching garret mani without the turbo attached to it as they're usually sold as a one piece.

Can't clarify if it'll fit the kkk manifold though, I'd imagine for copyright purposes they'd differ?

Just realises this is a pointless post, sorry. Hope things are good with you, see you in April @ combe?

the turbo and the manifold are not separate parts

Think you have the wrong turbo. As said, the manifold is part of The turbo unit.

Sounds like you're looking at a 1749va from a PD130 Audi A4 / Passat which has the engine the other way round. On those, the turbo and manifold are separate items. It is an integral part of the turbo on the ASZ (BLT) engines.

Thanks for the replies folks.

All very useful info & saves me buying something useless.

I'll be at Combe in April Josh, hopefully sporting 200+ hp by then. All the best with your Fabia project. See you...

Had mine replaced for a Garrett PD150 turbo a month ago as my kkk went pop. I have to say, it does feel a tad quicker as the old turbo was quite inefficient but swapping a good kkk for a good PD150 you shouldn't see a gain in power, you'll need a remap to reap the benefits of the new turbo. I'm fitting a seat sport fmic and egr delete soon before planning a trip to Shark for a fully custom map

PD150 (and the hybrid versions from tuning companies) all bolt straight to the engine, but might require a little modification of connecting pipework - mainly the turbo intake from memory, possibly turbo outlet too. Exhaust bolts straight on, oil feed/drain bolt right on.

sounds like a future job for me then! ill have to re- re- map then as mines remapped with std turbo (which is kkk on fab vrs SE is it?)when i get bigger turbo on it then right??

Pretty sure the PD150 turbo will run fine with your remap however the turbo will only boost to the same pressure as your current turbo so performance should remain the same, some else will be able to confirm this as I'm not 100% sure.. Once you perform another remap then you will gain a few extra horses, Shark said that expected power is around 200bhp and 315ft/lbs with this turbo and their custom map.

Pretty much right, but it might feel slightly stronger as for the same pressures, the PD150 turbo might flow ever so slightly better. This was the case when I ran a PD150 hybrid on stock PD130 mapping for a month or so. Did 151bhp on a dyno as stock, so gained about 10 to 15bhp on the stock setup. That was a hybrid though.

ah nice one guys! yea when i get a few bob then ill have to look into the pd150 turbo then, cheers lads!
