1.8TFSI Insurance Friendly re-map

Featured Replies

My originally 160bhp 2010 Octy 1.8TSi is currently running around with a Revo stage 1 map, which I have to admit is great and makes the car awesome for overtaking lost tourists & caravans on the twisty little roads we have down here in Devon and Cornwall. The only problem is that at an alleged 220bhp (Revo figures, I haven't had it on a dyno) I get hammered on the insurance as it's over the magic 20% increase that makes all the mainstream insurers get twitchy (think along the lines of £750 premium rather than £350).

So, I don't want to go back to stock, but does anyone know of a reputable map that would bring it in just below that 20%, say 185 - 190 bhp?

Cheers!

Shark should be able to do you something custom if you ask them nicely.

Why don't you spend £40 or £50 and get it dyno'd to give you a figure. You might be surprised. Run it on 95 Ron before the remap too :)

Hi,

Could I possibly ask did you try us at all for an insurance quotation?

Dan.

Hi Dan

Yes I did, you were in the ballpark I think around £800. My quotes from the specialist insurers were in the range £750 - £1300 and then the standard insurers were silly money or didn't want to quote.

I take it you're thinking it with the 95 Ron there's no way it will make Revo's figures so I can quote the numbers from the dyno run to the insurance & hopefully get a lower premium?
