Suspension help please

Featured Replies

Hi all, just bought our son a 2000 W 1.4 Fabia. he had for nearly 24 hours before getting a blowout ?? Then hitting a kerb at around 40mph, I have had a quick look as it's not drivable and also 50 miles from me, Wheel replaced but driveshaft badly bent o/s and rubs on the chassis, is it easy to replace the driveshaft or do you think it will need a bottom arm or anything else ?

Many thanks in advance.

May need lower arm, best to check really.

at the end it's needs an alignment check to be safe

Unlucky :(

At a minimum driveshaft, driveshaft seal and gearbox fluid, the rest you'll have to check to see what's damaged and yes get it tracked afterwards.

If it were me i'd look at the other common points of failure that are in the area you'll be working on, drop links, console bushes etc. If you're doing the work yourself new drop links, ball joints and wishbones are under £50 delivered. I would suggest Powerflex console bushes as they're so easy to install compared to OE versions (see technical guides section).

Thanks for comments and help , appreciated, still unsure how to proceed at the moment though.

See if u can post some pictures up of the damage. Seing a few decent pictures should give us a good idea of whats damaged and what will need replacing.

If your changing the driveshaft, then changing the gearbox oil seal is simple enough and should only cost a few quid.

Might have damaged/bent or if its got to the point of bending its probly snapped the console, can get them second hand no problem.

possibly bent the anti roll bar, not to much to replace either.

trackrod ends or inner tie rod, both quite cheap and both easy to replace (both parts of the steering rack)

bottom wishbone isnt that much either and quite easy to change.

droplinks, again reasy to change and dont cost much...

Im not saying all that needs changing but it isnt the end of the world if it does, woudl just be easier going to the scrap yard and getting a full suspension strut with the hub bearing etc all still attached and then replacing a few other cheap parts.

good luck fixing it.
