What would you do?

Featured Replies

Ok I know this has been covered in some depth but I just can't decide what to do.

I want to remap my car (Fab vRS) so naturally I want to get a custom remap from Jabba.

However I have been offered a digital tuning box from a VW dealer I know at cost price (

Buy a Dragon digital box off eBay for 200 quid and fit it myself ;)

A tuning box wont take into account future mods, and if you are planning anything OTT such as a new FMIC/Turbo I would recommend getting a custom remap either from Jabba, Custom Code 2 and others no doubt. If you are only planning maybe an exhaust with a sports cat etc in the future a remap will take this into account also.

I know that Jabba would be the best option for big figures but it does cost a fair bit more (probably double by the time I driven there and back). I don't really wanna buy from ebay just incase it develops a fault. I'm leaning towards the tuning box locally, for convenience if noting else.

Did the VW dealer say what make the tuning box is? Might be worth doing a bit of research and make sure it is a digital one and not an analogue one from eBay at that price :D Also, did they say how it affected warranty as they're offering to fit it? Might be worth getting something in writing if they say they will honour it. Oh, and enjoy

Buy an AMD one click and have the best of both worlds ;)

I think cost may be a factor with that option :P

Yeah cost is a consideration - I bought a Fabia vRS for a reason.

I think it is one of these...

He did ask for VIN numbers etc when I was enquiring. He also said to only use a good quality fuel such as Shell or BP and to avoid supermarket stuff and if I went abroad it might be an idea to remove it as european fuel isn't such a good quality????????

I don't think he'd honour any warranty issues but I have a very good relationship with my local Skoda dealer and if there was a way around anything they'd find it so I'm not too concerned with warranty, it can always be removed if need be. The VW DP has just had is Touraeg fitted with a similar unit. They also fit a lot to there demos.

The one click is undetectable, once it's removed the memory is fashed back to standard, they couldnt find out.

The tuning boxes really are easy to fit, literally pull one lead out and it clicks in, very easy, no more than 1 minute even for an illiterate DIY novice :D

On a group buy from Jabba the custom remap is only

IMO, theres unlikely to be a huge difference between a full remap, and a digital tuning box, and the latter is much cheaper, safer for the car (less power+torque) and is better for reselling. People go on about custom maps, but in reality, you'll still get a very nice (and safe) increase for your money. I'd go this route.

I've written my opinions in more depth, click on the link in my sig ;)

When he drives it I bet he could detect it though!!!!!

Get a one-click if you really are that concerned, that is undetectable and they will post it to you, all they need is your ECU number. Also i'm not sure who your dealer is but I wouldn't be happy if they had been thrashing my car about in the first place . Remember under easy acceleration the car does feel normal, it's only when you give it some beans that it comes alive :D

Also wherebouts do you live? I had to drive south to Peterborough from North Yorkshire and it was only
