It's amazing how germany and other EU countries are not screwed like us.

I do think it's time to look an inquiry into the insurance industry in the UK.

Indeed, and damned pronto too..

Did i read it in here, or ....or as i suspect...hear it from an insurance broker clerk, that whiplash claims are not allowed in Australia?

Now doing the same here would probably reduce premiums substantially overnight, well SHOULD do, but no doubt the insurance companies would come up with some wishy washy excuse not to.

Now I know Cameron has muttered something about this scam, but he tends to mutter and promise loads of things that never see the light of day. :wall:

Mr Ree,

are others quoting the same sort of cost for cover,

what about if she has a Black Box fitted with one of the companies doing that sort of cover?

george

In a final desperate attempt to keep her on the road, i got a quote from the Co-op for a 'black box'.

£6000!!! ....

What an absolute farcical joke.

Just rung Miss R's insurance to cancel the policy as it's not being re-newed today now. They wouldn't speak to me as I'm not the policy holder!

Data protection act was quoted to me as for the reason behind that load of b****x.

I simply told them that it would have been ME that was paying it if they weren't so intent on having my kecks down, but no, they have to dig their heels in and insist on speaking to my daughter, even though I'm her father and a named driver on the policy.

Talk about making life as difficult as possible.

They said that if the policy wasn't cancelled by her, then they'd charge and chase her for unpaid premium on a daily basis plus admin costs, even though terchnically she won't be insured after 12:33 today. :wall:

Is it any wionder they are SO hated?

Got my daughter to ring them, and at the end they wanted to know what was happening to the car that she was insured to drive?

I snatched the 'phone off her and told them to mind their own business, but they then started spouting off to me that it would have to be insured by another provider if it's not being sold or kept off the road.

WTF, and slammed the phone down!!! :@

On that point they are quite right to only accept a cancellation from the policy holder. Nobody else should be allowed to make changes to your insurance cover.

Well if I'd got someone to knee me in the nuts first and then spoken to them, how exactly would they have know I wasn't the policy holder?

That's why they ask for your date of birth and other details - to check that you are the policy holder.

Think i may know my daughters details actually. ;)

Save me the pain from a swift ikicking n the gonads, i could have just said that I was her and just had some hormonal treatment for my sex change!

If you had all your daughters details and put on a girly voice then they would have to believe you. Even with a deep voice!

But you've then committed fraud...

It staggers me how much insurance in the UK costs. I know a couple in Poland. They both passed their tests recently and bought their first car, a Fabia 1.9. Total cost to insure them both? £200.

SWMBO's insurance is due very soon. I don't think any of the site sponsors want to deal with her as she hasn't had her license that long (feel free to PM me and prove me wrong), but I did check for renewing last year before the change and the cheapest quotes now are about the same so the law hasn't had any negative effect there, but then she's not exactly 17 :)

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one, as they only want those that will pay without a fuss, plus they know they aren't going to 'quote you happy'.

Starnge how none of them come in here to defend themselves. no, they just stay in their own cosy little corners making sweet noises to these that ask them how much PLEASE, without the likes of me snarling at them.

This is one thing you can't blame the insurance industry for. Data protection laws need to be followed by all industries

Seconded on the Data Protection Act, I work for a large telecommunications company and we're exactly the same on DPA. It IS the law and it's there to protect the company and the consumer, and "being named" on the account isn't an excuse, as anything can happen in that time period. I have to put it in a very blunt way a lot of the time, for example, how would you like it if you said that your wife could do anything on the account, then say you have a marital breakdown over the coming months, she can easily ring up and screw over your account.

Data protection is data protection, some things a third party can do, disconnection / closure / changing of address etc - The account holder is the only person who will be allowed to do that.
