2.0 PD DSG question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My cousin went to look at a car today with the intention of buying, with the above specification. he noticed when revving the car in 'park' that the whole car felt like it was trying to move forward. I wasn't there so can't comment myself. He said it felt like the car was trying to drive. nearly like using a bit of clutch in a manual car when the handbrake is on is the only way I can think of it. The car wasnt moving tho. Just wondering if this Is normal for park mode or is it something he should be worried about?

Thanks

Jordan

Not normal. Avoid.

The DSG is expensive to repair, especially if it is the mechatronic unit that is worn.

There is plenty of choice out there so tell your cousin to be patient and find a perfect one.

Ok thanks, trying to convince the manual is better anyway :D

It's not. The DSG gearbox truly is the 8th wonder of the world. Drive one and you'll see what I mean!

Quoted for truth!

Off topic! Lol can anyone else categorically confirm the issue above definately should not be happening? Just for peace of mine :)

I can't say it happens to mine, is he sure it is the clutch dragging as the car should be in neutral anyway. Perhaps it could be a torque reaction to the engine being revved.

Certainly very abnormal.

"Park" in the DSG (or any conventional auto) is basically neutral, except the output shaft of the transmission is locked, thereby locking the drive wheels.

If the car did appear to be moving when revved in park, not only is there a serious problem with the gearbox selecting neutral, but the "park" output shaft lock mechanism would also have to be damaged or not working too.

This combination of faults is rare....in fact I have never heard of any auto having both these faults together.......you do hear of broken "park" mechanisms, but any auto being unable to select neutral is very unusual.....although in theory not impossible.
