Replace Thermostat?

Featured Replies

Hiya

I noticed last night via vag com that my coolant was only reaching 75 degrees while idling for a little while on the drive (I was looking for other things).

So this morning I went for a drive.

Initially the coolant and air intake both said 9 degrees.

The coolant temperature quickly rose, but plateaued at 75 degrees, never going over during the drive which had brief stops.

Back home on the drive it did start to rise above 75, reaching 90.

Went out again and the temperature fell back to 75.

It seems to me that the thermostat is opening to soon. I expect this behaviour, but with the plateau around 87 degrees.

Do people agree?

I wanted to double check as I heard it's a bit of a pain to change. Looking where it's housed, I can believe it.

Cheers

Bob.

P.S. It's the 1.8T VRS octavia.

Common problem, usually ends up putting warning light on eventually,

They are abit fiddly to do under inlet manifold, thermostat and get a new seal aswell and use genuine bits as cheap bits fail prematurely

Yep a bit fiddly I have done a replacement a few times. You need to unbolt alternator to get to the TStat, not a hard job.

As mentioned replace seal and fit OEM parts
