Servicing Intervals

Featured Replies

Hi, my TSI vRS had the little spanner icon displayed showing 5900, then 5800, 5700, etc, but the day countdown started counting down a couple of weeks ago too, and says it is now due a service. Which is correct??

Also, if I were to take my car to a VW dealer for its service, is there any chance they could upload the higher state of tune the GTi has, inadvertently or not, when hooking it up to their diagnostic equipment?

Thanks

The day countdown will be correct, the handbook does say time or distance whichever comes first.

In order to reprogramme the car to a higher state of tune the garage will have to plug in a new map. No franchised dealer will change the car from factory spec unless it is a factory sanctioned change.

There are two ways in which the service indicator can be set:

1) Fixed interval (time & distance). Whichever is reached first: 10,000 miles or 12 months.

2) Variable interval (long life). The car monitors the viscosity of the oil, the number of cold starts, RPM's, journey times etc. and decides when it needs a service. Up to a maximum of approx. 2 years or 20,000 miles.

As the car doesn't know how many miles are going to be driven eash day you need to service the car depending on whichever reaches zero first, the time or mileage.

As above, a Skoda / VW franchised dealer won't remap your car, you need to use a third party tuning company, a number of which are forum sponsors.

+1 on silvers reply. Don't know if your car is on fixed or variable service. Which option is best for you depends on a number of factors and is covered towards the back of the Octy II brochure which is available from the skoda.co.uk website

why would you take it to a vw dealer?

why would you take it to a vw dealer?

Maybe there isn't a skoda dealer nearby - or there is but they're not trusted by the OP?

I take my Skoda to a VW dealer, they are also an approved Skoda service centre so can carry out servicing, repair and warranty work.

They are also a million miles better than the nearest Skoda dealer.
