A lorry free Christmas (for a time)

Featured Replies

I had to travel to my daughters this Christmas Day and joined A1 at Newcastle West ( the A69 junction for those who know it) at 10.55 am.

Left A1 for Leeds at Wetherby junction some 80 miles or so later at 12.20 pm with the record of never having seen one HGV on the jolly old lorry ridden A1.

Why can't every A1 day be like Christmas Day?

Because the shops would be empty, Petrol forecourts empty, No Construction, and no pay in my pockets :-)

Shops accept deliveries through the night, as do petrol stations.

If only it was like Christmas Day between the hours of 7pm and 7am!

Sorry lads,

Tea breaks over,

Truckers rule the roads, and I bloody hate it

In France trucks are not allowed on the roads between 10pm sat night to 10pm Sunday night. This allows car and motor cyclists to enjoy those lovely roads without mobile chicains spoiling they're Sunday afternoon motor racing! .

Another law thought out badly IMO.

What better way to ensure most of the drivers of a HGV are driving whilst tired? after all they will have been up for most of the day before they go to work for up to 15 hrs - genius!!

In Germany (who also have the Sunday ban for HGV’s), the accident rate is greater on a Sunday due to the higher speeds the cars are travelling - like it or not the HGV’s actually regulate the speeds of others to a more sensible level.

Sunday in France is the day to regenerate your DPF filter and clean out one's carbon build up that has accumulated in in one's turbo.

Or infuriate others to a point they take additional risks?

I like to move at a reasonable lick of speed as much as the next person, but I am, and I expect everyone else on the road to be perfectly capable of making a safe and well judged overtake. If you cant do that, then you shouldnt really be on the road, or at least just accepting it and keeping out the way for the rest of us.

If the weather is decent I'm looking forward to a New Years Day spin. Roads should be dead
