Looking to buy Octavia (DSG) Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi

Have never owned a Skoda before.

But after test driven the 1st Fabia built by VW years ago - always wanted a Skoda.

Plus Skoda reliability seems better thn the rest of VAG and dealer customer service seems excellent!

My current car is a Subaru Legacy 3000cc 242BHP but running on LPG so just affordable at the mo.

Not exactly wot spec Octavia i am after, but minimum the following:

- have about £5-6k

- automatic (DSG better? Reliable? Expensive to repair/replace?)

- diesel

Did wanted a 4x4 (since my 4x4 Subaru has been excellent in snow with summer tyres). But i think i can get by with a set of winter tyres for a 2wheel drive Octavia.

Really fancy the vRS to match the Scooby performance, but as money is tight and i do like my creature comforts would the L&K be a gud option (satnav, park sensors etc)?

But i really ned advice on which particular model/trim?

Some say CR is better thn PD (but i cant stretch to a 2009/10 model)?

Some say 1.9 more reliable thn 2.0 PD?

Which one has no PFD?

Sorry for my long 1st post!

And Happy NY everyone :-)

Hi and welcome,

Can only speak from experience, I have a 2ltr PD with DSG and have been very happy with it though the 1.9 will be several MPG more economical, I am assuming they made a 1.9 with DSG. DSG fitted in the age range you will be looking is the 6 speed Wet Clutch type which is a great box and only needs an oil change every 40k - though it will cost more than a normal gearbox oil change and is not a DIY job as it need special tools and diagnostic S/W to set it up properly. I have not had mine done yet so can not give an actual price.

Neither engines had a DPF in 2006/7 and I believe the 1.9 in a 2 wheel Octavia never did - the 4x4 did have one fitted at some point. Both engines can be easily Map'ed to boost power by 20% or so without causing problems for the DSG or affecting reliability.

I would look at the Elegance as well as the L&K as the early Satnavs were not the best and expensive to update- I keep my portable Satnav in the conveniently placed center dash cubbyhole and so do a lot of other owners.

Happy hunting

Thks Octavia5

I will take a look at the Elegance too.

Does any Octavia come with cam chains?

And is 135k still reliable - since this looks very tidy (but the mileage)

Only the very latest petrols have cam chains.

All AVG diesel engines are supposedly good for 200+k as long as they are serviced properly. It is vital to double check the service history, add reads well but you would need to check when the cam belt was last changed - £1400 service could have included it but there is no specific mention, belt change is either 60k or 4 years and will cost about £400 by a dealer or £300 from an independent.

Check the Aircon and heater works by setting a high then low temperature, ideally when the outside temp is 10 or above, could be difficult this time of year.

Suggest you re-post in the Octavia 2 section as you will get more feedback - not everyone monitors this section
