Loud PD Engine Octavia 05

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Hope you guys have had great Christmas.

To start with I had timing belt and water pump replaced in my Octy 05 elegance a week ago.A couple of days ago engine got louder when idling. It's fine when driving around but when I stop at lights or junction you can hear very noisy engine. This noise disappears when pulled off. It's bugging me as I use this car as Taxi and love it to bits. Can anyone please shed light on as to what may be wrong!?

Added video if that helps. Can any one please comment.would be very thankful.

Thanks

Check all bolts on the aux belt tensioner arm are tight. One of mine came loose recently and made hell of a racket.

Have a look at the engine mount on the cam belt side of the engine, to make sure it's not loose.

It has to come off for a belt change and it's not unheard of for them to not be torqued up properly and to work loose.

If thats ok, then the timing covers need to come off for further investigation but get the garage who did it to do that......This is all assuming the noise is related to the belt change! (Seems likely)

Did they remember to put the engine cover back on!?

Thanks folks,

Yeh Engine cover was put back on. Have scheduled another appointment with the same mechanic who did timing belt on this thursday.

Do you recon its safe to drive because being taxi driver dont wana loose new years eve.

Although it may be unrelated to the recent work id check the timing marks it is possible the timing is too far advanced. Which would explain why it is ok under load as the faster you go the more advanced the ignition timing becomes. (Although engine noise may be drowning it out) It may be that the tensioner hasnt been torqued properley and moved slightly so the timing has been altered. Should you drive it<br />

Sorry dam phone!....Should you drive it? Id say no just incase that is the problem and it gets worse leading to a very bad day! But as I said it may be unrelated to the recent work so the risk is yours to take. And yes iam qualified ;)

Thanks v much for your help guys.

Been to the mechanic today and the first thing he said was its alternator pulley or free wheeler pully? Don't really know the exact name.so I ordered one and having it replaced tomorrow. Will see how it goes. I was wondering whether to buy it from dealers whoch costs about 60 quids or worth buying non-branded one which costs 30 quids??
