1989 MK1 Golf Clipper Cabriolet 1.8i

Featured Replies

1989 Mk1 Golf 1.8i 8v Clipper Cabriolet which has covered 165 000 miles.

I have owned the car for the last 3 years and in that time it has gone through a massive transformation from when I first bought it.

Interior

The seats have been recovered in white Vinyl as the original white seat covers were stained with over 20 years worth of use.

White gear stick gaiter and handbrake cover.

Momo steering wheel.

Aluminium peddles (fitted when i bought the car and never got round to taking them off)

3 VDO gauges fitted in the centre console but they are not wired up (some wiring fitted on the back)

Clocks have been changed as the rev counter stopped working on the original ones. Mileage showing around 93000 miles. I still have original clocks to show original mileage.

Exterior

The car had a full re-spray 3.5 years ago (still looks as fresh as the day it was done) and had the body kit removed which showed there is no rust at all on the wheel arches or sills.

New White Vinyl roof fitted on 16/06/09 and new rear window frame fitted

New windscreen

Black side mouldings have been removed and had the clip holes welded up and smoothed.

Front number plate has been relocated to the bottom of the bumper

Rear number plate surround has been removed.

All badges removed from tailgate with holes welded up.

MK3 VR6 front splitter

Original front splitter moved to bottom of rear bumper

Single headlight grill

Crystal Crosshair headlights

White/Red rear lights

15” ATS Cup Alloy wheels fitted with 195/45/15 tyres (Wheels do have very minor curb marks on them round the edges but they are all straight)

Engine

The engine was removed from the car during the winter months 2010/11. It was stripped down to be cleaned and painted and now looks brand new. While the engine was out the head gasket was replaced along with the core plugs.

Full engine bay was also rubbed down and repainted to give it a nice new fresh look.

Full Stainless Steel PowerFlow Exhaust has been fitted from the manifold back with a 3” round tailpipe and gives a nice sound (not to loud)

Suspension

Hottuning height adjustable coilovers all round

Transmission

All gear linkages have been replace with new ones which gives a nice tight feel when changing gear

In the 4 years I have owned the car it has only need 1 CV boot to pass the second MOT but I had both of them replaced. The car has only covered around 4000 since I bought it in 2008 as it is only on the road for 6 month during the summer and then garaged over the winter.

The car is currently SORN'd and it’s MOT’d until the end of June.

Looking for £2500. No offers.
