Retractable boot cover ... advice please?

Hello

The retractable cover in the luggage compartment of my much loved/used/abused '09 1.9Tdi Fabia estate has stopped working .... the spring loaded stays on either side seem to have become detached and fallen down inside the body.

I wonder whether to attempt to repair the fitting - which seems difficult. Access would be via the light clusters or by removal of the inner boot plastics, both of which I don't fancy.

The other option, I suppose, is to remove the retractable fitting completely and replace it with a fixed lid - if such a thing is available.

Any ideas/advice welcome.
