Wiper Creak Noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have for the last few weeks been suffering from a creaking noise coming from the drivers side wiper and I have been to my local dealership to get the issue fixed and so far they have lubricated the spindle and the noise did go away for about 5 days and then reappeared, so after a second visit to the dealers they then changed the linkage and a grommet or grommets plus the wiper blades and after driving the car for about 10 miles in the rain the creak has just reappeared again only from the drivers side wiper, so do you think it will be a new motor as there surely cant be much else left to change?

I would also like to ask anyone who could check there vrs with the actual position of there wipers when they are in the switched off position as I feel my passenger side wiper is sitting a little higher than it should be, when I have mine switched off and sitting on the drivers seat of the car I can see my left wiper about a couple of inches up from the bottom of the screen and from the outside of the car it is sitting just above the small black box with the chassis number on it.

Can anyone also check that if you have the wipers set on the intermittent setting and let the wipers do one wipe of the screen and then move the wiper stock to the off position the wipers drop about an inch or so, it seems as if when on intermittent mode they don't quite settle totally until you go from intermittent to the off position or is this normal for everyone or am I being overly critical here.

The creaking does annoy you especially when we have nothing but rain and you have no option but to use the wipers but the radio does take away the noise fortunately.

The dealerships are closed for a few days but be rest assured I will be straight into them about this and I am going to ask the service manger this time what is the next move.

I have to admit apart from this the car is amazing and I just love it but little things like this do take away a bit of the driving pleasure at the moment.

The wipers do rest at slightly different positions to preserve the life of the blades.

Here are a few picture of the wiper inside and out in the off position.

Thanks for letting me know, I probably only noticed this due to having an issue with the drivers side wiper and I thought I would just ask other members on here to see if this was a normal operation and it seems to be so.

Had this problem with the rear wiper on my volvo. The spindle the wiper connects to gets full of crud and starts to corrode. If you can disassemble and clean it it will be fine. But running a few drops of thin oil onto it first ioften clears it.

However in your case thats been done.

Another source of a "creak" is the rubber tracking on the glass, and cleaning the glass or even just letting the wipers run for a while can fix it.

Motor bearings would be more of a "screech" than a creak, which might be coming from the motor geabox that changes the motion from rotary to back-and-forth. .

However when you've eliminated everything else I think the only conclusion you have left is the motor.

From your pics they seem to be fine same height as mine, although mine dont creak so i would push the dealer about that.
