Filler Cover Problem

Featured Replies

I have noticed that when I open the petrol filler door the recess is partly full of water (much rain recently). It looks like the drain pipe is not working and I can't seem to clear the blockage by the usual method of pushing a piece of flexible wire down the tube. Anyone come across this before and anyone know how to get to it under the wheel arch? I assume the drain pipe must be kinked or pinched so preventing the water from draining away.

Has no one had this problem?

Can you put a tube from a bicycle pump or similar over it and try to blow the obstruction out?

Not me.

Not here either.

Would think if the pipe is kinked/distorted then it should be a warranty issue :wonder:

Only blockage problems with that particular drain I've come across are on diesels, were the fuel oil has mixed and congealed with dirt; fixed with white spirit.

Not a bad idea, but if the pipe is kinked or blocked and you apply pressure from above, there is a risk that you might blow the pipe off the filler surround. I would also suggest a visit to your dealer, though I'm pretty sure that to get to the back of the unit the whole of the O/s boot trim needs to be removed.

When his car was new I think it was Johann who had problems with the filler cap door that wouldn't release & interior trim removal was the only way for the dealer to sort it.

I think the problem has probably been there since new, Yeti is usually garaged so this has only come to light over Christmas when car was left out. I guess I will wait till I have the oil/filter changed in March (12 months) - despite garage telling me it is on variable servicing so no service needed before March 2014 - and have it fixed under warranty. I believe at least annual oil changes are worthwhile even though I am now only doing approx 10k per annum. Maybe could convert to fixed servicing but would still prefer superior long-life oil.

I think the drain tube must be kinked because despite finally getting a smooth ended piece of wire through the tube to drain the water away it sealed again as soon as I pulled the wire out.
