Picked up my Fabia!

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Picked up the Fabia yesterday it's a 1.4MP1 classic estate in Silver, will hopefully get some pictures up soon. It's done 44,000 miles 3 owners and hasn't been driven for a year! - Miracoulously started first time :o Handbrake was stuck on though but thats fine now. No Central locking which is a pain and no electric windows :( I am sure i can fit these at some point though.

It drives really smooth however i have now noticed a few small faults:

- Power steering feels like it needs more fluid, i can't find the resevior to check though! and when turning the wheel i get a funny noise coming from the passenger side that sounds like small animal occasionally lol.

- The head lights flicker sometimes whilst driving (perhaps the battery?)

- Engine management light is on, EPC came on and is now off, and the steering wheel with the ! next to it came on for about an hour and has gone off again.

And overall condition of the car / paintwork could do with some TLC.

Any ideas / suggestions on what to do regarding the above?

Many thanks and best wishes.

Michael.

Or maybe because the car hasn't been run in a year the battery just needs some juice so many driving around could help?

Power steering is electric, hence having no fluid reservoir! Its very common when at idle, when you turn the steering wheel, for your lights to dim if they are on. This is obviously as the PAS motor is taking alot of juice. Steering whine at full lock is just the motor squeeling a bit as it hits the end stop. As mentioned, give it a good italian tune up and see how you get on! If not, then batteries don't cost the earth as long as you stay away from Halfrauds! Would deffo give it a good service though seeing as though its been sat for so long mate.

Errrgh???

The reservoir for the power steering is topped up by removing the battery as it is situated under the battery tray.

If the steering "screeches" when you turn the wheel, there is every chance that the fluid is low and it needs to be replenished.

Power steering is electric, hence having no fluid reservoir!

You are right ...........and wrong......................and as it is new years day....you are..... ............... .... :drunk: .....so mistake alowed

Direct electric pump (not driven from aux belt on engine)

You still have fluid....and a resevoiur.................just hidden under the big battery box.........on the diesel cars and the MPI............other engines (like mine) have a smaller battery box so it is visiable............you have to remove the battery and the box to get at the reseviuor.................(i've gone a bit french in my spelling.......good beer...... :D

Oh.................................

I stand corrected then. :doh::blush:
