Scout tfsi - How Fast?

Featured Replies

Hello gents.

I love my Octavia vRS 2.0 TFSi, but living here in West Wales I do sometimes wish it wasn't such a pansy car with low profile tyres and a low(ish) ride height. I have noticed in the classifieds that yo could spec an Octavia Scout with a 2.0 fsi engine rated at 150bhp. Is this the same engine, albeit detuned, as fitted to the vRS? Is it possible, and if so how, to make it a 200bhp + monster?

This is what I would be considering as the base vehicle...

Can you see where I am going with this?

No the tfsi in the vRS has a ko3 turbo. The old 2.0fsi engine doesn't have turbo. You would be better getting the 1.8t scout and remapping.

The 1.8 TSI? If I did do it I'd have to have the vRS seats swapped over. It's tempting... I need to drive a Scout...

Scouts go for silly money second hand, you might find something else is better value.

TFSI = "Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection"

FSI = "Fuel Stratified Injection"

FSI has no turbo hence cannot be tuned up like the turbo charged variant. Max you would see out of that would be around 160-170bhp

Can't find the link but take do a search for beti the yeti - it's a 1.8 TSi yeti with a k04 turbo. 4x4 and more power than a golf R IIRC?

I think the issue is that I want a sportycar that can handle the lower edges of off-roading... and that is asking too much of a vehicle. I did consider a Discovery 3 but they hold their value way too much. I noticed that Scouts hold their value more than an equivalent vRS. But the 1.8 tsi route is something I would consider...

If skoda made a 4x4 scout with the vRS turbo petrol engine it would be a very serious contender to replace my vRS.

The 1.8TSI Scout is pretty nippy, considering the bulk of the car. It can certainly be entertaining on country roads :)

IIRC the 1.8 petrol scout has performance figures comparable with a diesel vRS, though the driving characteristics are obviously different. The yeti can be got with the 170 diesal engine found in the Octy vRS. It's a pity you couldn't spec. a scout with that engine!

Sarge.

Get a seat freetrack tfsi. 4 wheel drive and same engine as a vrs!!

Going to have to agree to disagree...

Neither wins first prize at the beauty contest lol! They are both damn good cars though for the money, our freetrack is unstoppable in all weathers comes with an unbelievable amount of standard kit and can really shift even from a standstill in greasy wet conditions. With a remap I reckon it would be awesome

The SEAT Freetrack 4 is also fully loaded as standard and a used TFSI one is around half the price of a Scout.

It's a rare beast then?! I can't imagine your average Scout buyer wanting a 2.0 petrol over a diesel. Quite tempted by a 1.8 tsi, like the one above... that'd be mental and exactly what I would be looking for really. It's just a shame I prefer the pre-FL.

Its unlucky for you then that you can only get the 1.8TSI as a facelift. Unless, did some of the 09 that did half the interior facelift, but not the external come with the 1.8TSI engine?

That red Scout is probably the only 2.0FSI Scout in the country - they are gutless and incredibly thirsty.

Buy a 1.8 tsi and transplant an old front on? :D

Peak power figures only tell half the story. The 1.8TSI is turbocharged, which gives it a really nice torque curve. I haven't driven a 2.0FSI but I'd imagine that it would feel weak in comparison.

Turbocharging is the reason I can drive a 122hp 1.4TSI and not miss my 210hp Volvo one bit.
