Creaking shock absorber.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently had fitted some H&R 30mm springs to my standard shocks. I have now developed a creaking comming from the front driver's side shock area, it doesn't creak that bad going over bumps more of a uneven road. Any ideas what it could be? I believe it could be top mounts or possibly bushes?

Thanks in advance.

I had a problem with creaky anti-rollbar bushes in my octy. Worth a look.

i know some find it to be the two rubber stops for the bonnet that are up towards the hinge end, put some grease on these and see if it stops it

This may sound daft, try sticking some Vaseline on the little rectangular black rubber just infront of the bonnet hinge, this was my problem!

ah yes it was you, knew id read it somewhere

my creaking turned out to be a snapped spring rubbing against the wheel arch lining. looks like there are lots of possibilities :) couldn't see anything amiss until it was on a ramp.

Just been to the garage because of Creaking/ Cracking suspension... it seemed to be worse when decelerating/engine braking... apparently the top bolts on the suspension were slightly loose. They loosened them off and tightened them back up again and it's much quieter now!!

In the process we found the coil spring is broken at the very top of the coil and the top mounts are worn... but just tightening everything back up again has made it LOADS better!

Hope you get yours sorted mate.... as another option what are the droplinks like?? Are the bolts on them loose at all?? People told me that they could be a possible cause of creaking etc...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll take a look. When I press on the bonnet above the strut it replicates the creaking noise, even when I push down the opposite side the driver side is the side that creaks?!

I don't want to diagnose without seeing but it is/was my off side rear that broke. When you sat down in the back on either side, it creaked.

I'm 99% sure it's the little rubber blocks as it seems to be the same issue I had.

Hello again,

I opened the bonnet and had a look around for the little rubber blocks, but could see them? I closed the bonnet and drove off, the creaking is now condsiderably less noticeable. So i did something but i dont know what!

Cheers,

probably is similar issue, grease hinges and all contact areas for the bonnet.

Ive been having a creak as i pull away and brake recently, turned out to be top hing of drivers door, the pin was worn - why this caused a creak i dont know, fixed by changing it, seen it on a few octys
