XDS - Software only or hardware required?

My Fabia. Did Combe before I changed it and after and seemed better coming out of corners but then Combe was hot and bone dry the second time. On a fast run on a B road I do regularly in all conditions it does seem better especially on short, uphill corners. I can keep my foot on the throttle a bit more then I used to but this could also be me getting used to the car. By no means does it make a huge difference but the difference is there.
