Turbo is on next day delivery, but due to weekend will not arrive until Tuesday, so depending on arrival, sameday or next day after that.

Car was ready on Thursday, but due to the snow and work commitments I train'd it back to MK today to collect it. The reason for the failure was some object entering the turbo and causing havoc with the blades :(

When Ali put it all back together and tested the car it almost straight away popped the pipes, so he did some investigating and as it turns out, the car is actually remapped! Now either the seller has not been aware of this, or he's been hiding this from me, but as the map is incredibly aggressive, he arranged for me to pay a visit to Motech here in Northampton to have it put back to standard or at least a milder map.

Drove the car home and then decided to go out again to visit Ikea (since the roads were clear and we need some drawers) with both cars... and thank god I did. 10 miles away from home on the A43 the pipe came off again! Phoned Ali who immediately came to the rescue and blue-petered it tight as the pipe is now slightly disformed. This remap needs to go!

And it just doesn't get any better. Paid a visit to Motech and they could initially not talk to the car at all. Apparently this is common with remaps from the likes of Revo/APR/etc to prevent you from modifying anything. As a last resort he tried an old chinese OBD VAG-COM dongle and was presented by some parameters which hinted at a performance setting of 0 to 4. He changed it from 2 to 0 (stock?) but my butt dyno did not really anything different.

I'll now have to go back to Ali and see where to go from here...

Anyone want to buy a Fabia vRS? Piece of... :(

Final update. Car is back and fixed. Remap has now been removed and the boost hose replaced with a new one. Having now spend almost as much on repairs as I bought it for I hope it's going to last me a bit longer this time ;)

A big thanks to Ali (and the other techies) at Unit 18 and Mike from Motech for helping me out these 2 weeks.

Oh dear, doesnt sound like your vRS ownership has got off to a good start! Thats not the first time I`v heard a ECU be locked after a map, not great, especially when its got a poor map on. Hopefully you`ll have a bit more luck now its back on the road.

Glad you got it sorted.

It's very sneaky for them to "lock" the ECU... you have paid for the remap and it's your ECU so they shouldn't be preventing people from being able to get in and change maps easily etc... especially when they messed the map up in the first place!

Should last a bit longer now anyway. Have you gone back to a stock map then?

Yes, it's now completely standard again. Haven't had the opportunity yet to do a butt dyno test (as I had Mrs Q following me) so I'll find out tomorrow on the way to work what difference it has made.

It will probably feel just fine. Sounds like you have come from a bad map so a stock map will likely be smoother etc.

Our stock PD130 always felt very fast... the main difference between a stock and remapped one is that a stock is pretty pointless to rev much past 3000rpm.

Just think of it in terms of it prolonging the life of the car.
