Your Thoughts - TDI-Tuner

Featured Replies

My opinion is "sceptical" - but then I have never been a fan of tuning boxes, much preferring the ECU reflashing option.

there is a place in Bradford so not far from you, that will do a good remap for £150/200 - they are called remapscience - I had my prev 1.9TDi fabia comfort done by them and it was great -

wow that is cheap for the figures they claim, has anyone heard of this company before? or better yet had any dealings with them?

I want to be able to put it back to standard as and when though. If that Tunerbox is no good can anyone recommend one?

Shark are highly recommended for fabia stage one maps. They can send you an STS unit enabling you to revert to standard at your convenience. Speak to Rob at W8 performance(who is a site sponsor) as I know he was doing a deal on stage one maps with a free STS box. But not sure if this still stands. Worth a call though. Cheers.

I would agree but I bet its over £200 - Just emailed them now.

When would you de-remap your car?

Not sure bud - Just like the thought I can.

I have one of those sitting in a cupboard, I had it on the car about a week or so. It did give noticeable increases in power with a brutal torque spike low down, I removed it after I smelt the clutch burning a few times during overtaking, no doubt it would have fried the clutch eventually! Also it smoked like mad kicking out thick black smoke.

Just a basic resistor circuit with a potentiometer to alter the resistance, all encased in a smart looking exterior.

my experience with remapscience -I used them three years ago on my fabia comfort 1.9 - the remap did give the figures they provided on the web site, I had a rolling road test - I kept the car for 2 years and then passed it on to my son - it still performs superbly and returns a regular 50mpg even when driven hard - they told me that the remap can be undone by them anytime.

Someone local to you looking to go down the remap route, may be worth talking to him on his findings (dependant on the engine you have fitted) as the map he is looking at can be taken off and replaced with the standard one by yourself - IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT USING/HAVE A LAPTOP. The map and the cable should come in under £60.

That's me, I get paid on 15th so I'm ordering the Mpps cable then!

Have something like this on my pd130 polo. Although probably not as great as a remap I saw it as a great compromise till I had the correct set up for a custom remap - front mount, hybrid turbo & exhaust. I didn't want to go down the route of paying for a straight generic remap on my standard car and then have to pay all over again when it had mods done. Also, they are not just a resister in a box - you can get them off ebay for £30. My car feels a lot more responsive with no other issues with the clutch, gearbox etc. Though, I got mine second hand and to be honest I wouldn't pay over £100 for one, just save and get a remap done!
