Going for Stage 2 Remap...

Featured Replies

Ok so this has probably been asked 10000 times before, but it's always good to keep things upto date imo when it comes to modifications and what are really needed for each stage.

Now my car was standard when I bought it, and I originally intended to just get a stage 1 map done (revo or similar).

I intended to have it remapped before my first trackday at the end of last year, but that didn't happen, and as it was so quiet on track, I decided to buy a turbo back exhasut (3" downpipe and a piper cat back), and at the same time bought a Pro Alloy front mount intercooler.

Now i'm thinking it's pointless just getting a stage 1 remap done, so what else is really needed for a stage 2 remap ?

Basicly my questions are:

Will a stock recirc valve be ok (it was brand new 1 month ago) ?

Will a stock panel filter be ok (brand new 1 month ago) ?

Do I really need a TIP ?

Will the standard fuel pump be ok ?

Is a catchcan needed now ?

What else (if anything) is needed for a reliable stage 2 remap ?

Thanks in advance.

You are ready now for stage 2

Best to see how the dv goes more than likely need an uprated one with a stronger spring

Other than that you don't need the rest

Hi pal im currently preparing my car for stage 2 aswel and I can tell you most place's will advise even say its a must to fit a TIP. Im no expert on the rest but i'm pretty sure the stock recirc valve won't cope very well with the increase in pressure, also might be worth changing to a k + n or pipercross panel filter. From what i'v gathered fuel pump should be ok unless going hybrid ect and catch can will be more of a engine care product which im going to look at after my remap!

p.s. my word isnt gospel just trying to help!

I am looking for a good condition used TIP, as I just can't bring myself to pay £130+ for a new one and I don't want an ebay cheapy that won't fit propperly.

As for the recirc, I wasn't sure if it would cope or not, but as it's only a month old, I figured it might be ok for a while, but if not i'll get a forge 007.

As for filters, tbh I have a couple of BIG k&n induction kits (4" intake) and an alutec (i think) 3" intake filter in the garage from previous cars, so I guess I could just get a cheap cai kit and then get a reducer and stick it behind the bumper and give it a cold air feed.

Creations motorsport do a TIP for about £75 and they seem to be ok, iv got one fitted to my car!

Did it fit straight on without any modification required ?

I had been heard (maybe incorrectly) that there TIP were just chinesse knockoff's with there logo printed on them

Tip not required

Its just pointless engine bay bling

:)

Get a forge dv with yellow spring instead

If I were you I wouldnt go for a used TIP but for a used 007 DV from Forge. What are you going to do with the little extra air through your TIP if the spring of the factory DV is soft and the air will just be dumped, even if you try to make a higher boost the factory DV will be kept open constantly due to the soft spring. Basically, if you change your TIP you will see minimal or no difference in your boost, leave everything else as is, change the DV to a 007 with a yellow spring and your boost will go significantly higher. In your case I believe the correct order is 007, CAI and then TIP.

btw boost = hp & torque

Ok I will get a forge 007 dv.

So what gains (if any) will I get from CAI and TIP ?

not sure on how difference it really makes but yea it is bling bling, main 2 reasons i had one fitted was because i was having my turbo replaced so might aswel and R - tech who will be doing my stage 2 advised me to get one!

Definatly get a forgeas above, tho i saw a awesome gti replica on a vrs at a meet on saturday and that seem to be ok tho i dont know much about that one e.g price ect?

I fitted a TIP to my car for 2 reasons, first I was having a new turbo so saved on fitting cost and second R - tech who are doing my stage 2 adivsed me to get one!

(Also its abit of bling) :)

R-tech are also going to be mapping mine for me :)

As for the bling, I don't really care for it anymore, I have had enough of cleaning engine bays over the years.

I just want to use it :D

plus one for the r-tech map, really like their maps, was a great map on the last car i had!

IMO I would buy a tip only 75 and will give optimum flow but not essential if that makes sense

Stage 0 to stage 2 omg your going to have a smile on your face ;-)

You'll be OK with the standard DV. Especially if you've recently replaced it with a new OE unit.

Mine runs 19psi fine. Plus the heavily tuned BAM engined demo Mk1 that Shark have has a standard DV fitted......

Ok will see if forge will do me a deal on a 007 and a TIP together.

If not i'll get the TIP from the bay.

Ok I got a deal from forge on a 006 dv with yellow spring (ex display) and a forge TIP again ex display :)

imo the tip made quite a bit of difference at the top end when i fitted one, did'nt do alot low down..still worth doing though and you could ask niki or ben at r-tech to do a back to back on the tip to explode the myth once and for all? if they have the time that is!! it does'nt suprise me that they recomend getting one,as increasing the flow through the tip will meen the turbo is'nt working quite so hard trying to suck air in and blow it out,if that makes sense?? oh and get it mapped with in gear boost mapping and launch control, they're awesome!!

for what its worth i bought a generic dv on ebay (based on the 007 from what i can see) cost like 30 posted and is a good as the real thing, even came with 3 different springs and some shims, i have had forge, and other than no name on this it looks the same (and performs as such)!

I have;

TIP, 007p, FMIC, CAI, DP/200cel Cat, Jetex Cat-back.

IMHO all ready for going straight to Stage 2, I'll also be going to R-Tech :)

Plus 1, for this I brought one of these about a year ago and even though it may be against some people's religion with it not having forge on it, it has never let me down! Amen!

Tuners recommend a performance DV and TIP based on the age of these cars . If on std DV although they work ok from new would be quite weak by now and same with TIP , these would become worn and the rubber would not be as tight and firm and this is when you can get the TIP sucking in(compressing) on full boost as the side walls can no longer handle the increased HP from a performance map like a new silicon one could.

Although I somewhat did not stop at just the TIP and DV.lol
