Tailgate not opening Octavia 2 estate

Featured Replies

OK, folks I hope someone can offer a solution............

The electric actuator that opens the tailgate on my 2005 1.9Tdi estate (130,000 miles 2005) is not working. I have just returned from my very helpful, knowledgeable independent and trustworthy garage after we tested the actual tailgate switch (proved as working) and the actual actuator motor (proved as working) to discover that there is no power coming to the actuator motor.......This therefore leads me to suspect that there is a broken wire somewhere in the supply to that motor. The fault history is that it was working fine without any problem, then it didn't work for about a day, then it started working again for a few days and now has died again with no indication at all of anything slightly working and then failing. The car has never been involved in any accidents or such similar trauma.

Question

Could anyone kindly suggest the likely places to look for a broken wire/ connection plug not making on the car.

The rest of the central locking works no problem. However quite some time ago now the bootlight has failed to come on and I could not mend it despite replacing the switch which is, apparently a common vag problem. So there are potentially now two power supplies not working to the back of the car. Everything else on the car works well so i am beginning to suspect wiring problems

Thanks all in advance I hope I have explained the error sufficiently. I hope some experienced auto electrician reads this

Thanks everyone

Happy New Year

Tom

Just offering a hunch here, but a common place for loom failures on a boot or tailgate is where it goes from the car body to the tailgate/hatch as that is the point of a fair amount of mechanical wear and tear each time it is opened.

I had a problem with my hatch not opening at random times & it was a faulty convienence unit, they replaced it under warranty & its been fine ever since,it would sometimes work fine then another wouldnt open at all.
