Air con problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help me with this. The AirCon on my Fabia Comfort (X 2000; 55K) packed up a short while ago. I had it re-gassed, but the problem remains. Sometimes it blows cold ok, but most of the time there is no cold air at all. I suspect there must be a sensor/thermostat playing up somewhere. Does anyone know where/what it is? Is it a big/expensive job to replace?

Additionally, has anyone had any gearbox selection problem? I've just had to have a selector fixed on mine - a costly business.

I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice. :)

You really need to get dealer diagnostics on it to be sure, but my Evaporator Temperature Sensor packed up (flagged sporadic). Symptoms sound identical to mine, although mine packed up in the heat of summer so it was only at night, it produced any cold air .... not much use ;) The good news is this sensor is only 30 quid. The bad news is that the dash has to come out to fit it and expect dealers to quote 4 hours labour!

Luckily, a friendly Skoda Tech on here offered to do mine and I think it took him about 2 1/2 hours all in

Very common problem with Fabia's just outside warranty, apparently - mine failed in August last year and my warranty ran out in March 2004 :(

My car had 4 faults logged on the ECU - one of which had knocked the air-con out of use so it was just a matter of them clearing all the faults, re-program something, and adjusting something else and all has been good so far (cost a grand total of
