Headphone advice needed

Featured Replies

I'm off to South Africa soon and i would like to have a pleasant flight without listening to screaming kids and whirring engines for 15 hours.

I'm after some good headphones in ear or over ear that are durable light weight and help reduce noise when in use. I would spend about £60 on a pair as I travel often.

What are your recommendations/ experiences with head phones?

Thanks in advance

Greg :)

I've never spent that much on headphones but Sennheisers are usually a sound bet.

I'd look for active noise reduction if it's in budget.

Are in-ear going to mask external noise sufficiently?

I have some very old Sennheisers which are nice and light and sound good, but make my ears too hot so they have never been replaced/upgraded. They also leak sound both in and out.

Noise on aircraft is the pits.

Go first class, you know your worth it.

Thanks.

First class is a bit out of budget. I'm flying virgin and BA. Already been robbed for cattle class lol.

I've owned various earphones and headphones over the years and I reckon you get what you pay for in terms of sound quality but you need to balance that up with quality of file your listening to.

Over ear headphones I reckon generally release more noise around you as do the usual sit in the earphone type.

I've tried various inner ear phones over the past few years ranging from £20 up to £90. Wouldn't buy anything else now. Great for travelling.

I recently got a pair of Klipsch iX10 earphones for £90 and they sound incredible, and the design means they block out a hell of a lot of ambient noise including aircraft him. Best ear/phones I've ever heard. I got a real bargain as the RRP was a lot more than I paid.

I bought my nephew a pair of Sennheiser OCX890 from Amazon in Dec for £40 now back up to £73 :-( as they got good reviews from What HiFii and other online forums. Crackin sound aswell and my nephew says they block out his dad moaning at him so he loved em :-)

Bargains to be had if you spend some time sussing out what type suits your needs best. If its for travelling I'd suggest inner ear phones unless you can find a pair of Bose noise reduction types for nearer your budget.

What HiFi is worth a look at to and googling for prices. That's what I did for my nephews bday present a month ago.
