Hey guys, just got my car on a rolling road which showed 154bhp and 303 ft-lb of torque.. I recently got the map done and should be between 170-180.. The guy read the map and said that it is an acceptable map, but he noticed my MAF sensor was aftermarket, made by someone called lucas? I think it was lucas anyways, and he said it should be bosch. What im wondering is that if i fit a bosch MAF sensor do you think that it will sort the problem? Also, it was smoking ALOT and he said that was down to the MAF too.. True?

I know Lucas makes calipers, not so sure about mafs so could be a different company with the same name...

What colour was the smoke and did it stink of diesel? I had this problem - white smelly smoke, found the maf was under-performing. Changed it and all was well. Wasn't down on power though

Lucas is good quality stuff. Unlikely to be causing a problem.

Alright then, so i shouldnt really need to change the maf? I cant justify spending the £100 odd for one :/ it was black smoke mate

Lol Hello mate, you had thick Black smoke which is over fueling, maf sensor readings are interpreted and used in tables in the map thus if its caked up or not the correct type it will not run right.

Listen to Johnny he knows what's he talking about and do quite s few vags.

btw I just so happened to be there, at the dyno but with my fabia.

I'd replace the maf sensor.

I'd say so genuine ones are on eBay for 75ish so price them up.

in theory you should be able to check the maf readings with vcds, he's seen re manufactured being **** and third party I've had a similar experience with oxygen sensors on petrol engines.

Log group 3 (MAF) in VCDS from 2k to just past 4k.

Should read from high 1100's down to high 900's.

Im.gonna get a new maf tomorrow, reckona bad maf can cause a 20bhp loss though?

If its under reading then yes. Theirs a smoke map that limits fuel dependant on MAF reading.

If you VCDS then carry out a log.
