Removing battery tray pre fl

Featured Replies

I need to remove the battery tray to access my abs unit so I can finish my tpms install. But trying to remove battery tray and it seems to be connected to the air flow equipment. Does that have to cone out too??

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

Adam

Easier if it does.

I found getting the air box out was pretty easy, once the two parts of the base were separated. There's a rubber grommet holding the two together, but a very good pull and wiggle got them apart.

You going for the rubber seal with 'nipples' behind the glovebox?

Let me know how the TPMS instal goes (specifically which ABS controller you have & which pin you plug the TPMS into) as I e got mine to do when it warms up.

My worry is getting it all back in.!!! Will do tho

There seems to be a hose leading into the bottom the air box that I'm not keen on disconnecting too!!

It's just a drain for any water that might collect in there

It really is quite easy....

Yes I did it in the end. Just put it all back now having not been able to locate the electric connector for abs unit. I was expecting to see something on the side of the unit but nothing obvious there and the footy is on so gave up!!

I also tried insert a straightened coat hanger through the firewall at the top, which is I think where Kb meant by nipples but couldnt see where it was emerging inside the car with glovebox out. So all in all a bad day!!

Adam

The rubber nipples are lower down (about half way down the engine bay), not the ones that go at scuttle level.

You won't see it inside the car (even with glovebox out) as it is tucked up behind some trim. You can feel it with your hand though and will be able to feel the rubber and nipples.I snipped one of the nipples and pulled the wires for PDC loom through the small hole I had made (lots of vaseline involved).

All worked from the inside to the engine bay.I've not looked at my ABS controller yet, but isn't there a plug & wiring loom connected to it?

The wire for the TMPS needs to be pushed into one of the vacant pin hole, but I'm not sure which one for which controllers. The instructions I got from the people who supplied the TPMS didn't make much sense as I can't manage to match them to my VCDS scan...

I couldn't see an obvious connector although there was a way through the firewall lower down which you presumably mean. For tpms I do know its pin 27 if you don't have hill hold, pin 41 otherwise.

Adam

I'd heard it was pin 34! Depending upon which ABS controller you have fitted.

Do you have a link to the source of your info?

If I get around to doing mine this week, I'll take pictures and post them (I need lots of time as I'm combining this with new - second - aerial cable for Columbus, MDI & BT / mic cables all running across the front of the car...)

It came from leetdi on here who sourced it from Eddie-nl, so pretty reliable I'd say. It was a pre made loom. I'll email you the instructions for the loom later if you pm an email address.

Cheers

Adam

Thanks will do that now. Agreed that Eddie_NL is reliable (I don't know leetdi so can't comment).

These are the 'instructions' I was sent... At least the ones I think are for my car (pre-FL ABS).

Tyre pressure monitor26.pdf

The four files I was sent were for:

1: ABS with TCS Nov 2010 onwards;

2: ABS with EDS and TCS/ESP or ABS with EDL and TCS/ESP/HHC as of Nov 2010;

3: ABS with EDS and TCS/ESP/HHC as of May 2007;

4: ABS with TCS as of October 2005.

As I don't have HHC (hill hold control) and my car is an '07 plate, I guessed that it was number 4 and have attached this one here. If you need number 3, let me know and I'll ping that back to you.

My ABS controller scan done with VCDS (in case anyone can advise further on which controller / pin combination I need):
