well, either goo but that looks messy, some flowers perhaps, or as i prefer rubber bungs, you can buy them from most automotive places and they tidy the hole right up. Welding is pointless and costly tbh as is filling and painting.

:D thats as good as my

" what about a tigerseal plug " idea :D

Hehe

lol, you could enlarge a hole, and fit a beer tap, that would be interesting

that would do the job mate, it's a 2 part paste that activates when you knead it together, sets in a few minutes and can be sanded after a few hours

Wow luca that was much awesome help :D

hehe

It did sound serious lol

Wouldnt wana mess it up tho :D

epoxy putty is ok, but you will need to block it from underneath to make sure otherwise you will just push it through. Is it really worth the effort fo doing that, then filling any imperfections, then cleaning the whole area masking off and spraying to match the rest of the engine bay metal??

Why remove the brace? if you do, then do as i said, bungs, they look fine, i did it to one before and it looks fine, it is an engine bay after all!!!

I didnt think of it falling out the bottom :D

lol see thats the luca thoughts im use tim taking my bo11ox jom off as it fooks me off messing with bonnet

I have a cut filled and sprayed tt one to go on

It covers the old holes but was just thinking about the strength of the strut bit if theres like 6 holes ?

Just assumed theyd need to be filled ?

It won't fall out the stuff is quite tacky once activated, just make it a little bigger than the hole then smooth it down with your fingers.

Having said that its not something I'd go to the hassle of doing, the rubber bungs grommets are probably easiest if you can find some the right size, personally I'd just put a little touch up paint around the edges of the hole so it doesn't rust. Job done ;)

But you are going to have to take wheel off to get to bolts underneath, so not that much of a ball ache to do really is it Luca?, And no point saying to Lloyd its just and engine bay as his car is more his baby than mine is to me.

Plus it wont be Lloyd doing it, it will be myself and the pit crew in Andover.... I am pretty good with liquid metal, have glued to parts of broken exhaust together with it, and a oil sump too after it got caught.

Lloyd is sort of person like me, who will know it's just been bunged, and it will bug him. lol

Chill Bud, we will be fine, we now have compressor so air tools, and paint gun. lol. that i would run and hide at myself. mwahahahahah

We have dryness, warmth light and electricity at unit. Plus hot drinks cold drinks we are all mod cons. thinking about taking a microwave up there too. lol

only thing is toilet is in a caravan.... or shovel and hole mate. ha ha ha, but what do u expect its a farm.

lol, you guys are mad, you are right dave, not a massive effort, am just not a fan of epoxy putty, i do like the weird smell though (weirdly)!

i agree with Keirravn, too much effort tbh and still not the proper way, my ocd side to do it properly means i would mig it, and then flat and paint the whole lot...thats why i used bungs. They looked suprisingly ok.

but i know lloyd is mad so will do it the hard way!:>

Just a though...redrill the holes on the brace itself (depending on spacing) blank holes on the brace wont affect the rigidity/strength (as long as they don't cross the new hole path) and will save you a lot of work, also means you don't need to do unecesary drilling to your strut tower...thats what i would do if not bungholioing it:>

Then you can just use the original bolts and holes

We have a welder at unit but my welding skills aint that great. need some practice. lol . spacing between the audi brace and the jom is different and diff number of holes too i think.

yes mine isnt pretty, but am getting there, doing some seat frames for my mk2 golf at the mo, mig makes such a difference, i dont even try to do car stuff with arc any more.

Well see if you can use the hole pattern on the new brace, take a template (draw round strut top) then see if it fits in with the new brace mounting rings, depends on the style, but might well work, my omp brace on my golf has flat plates so you could use holes on it anywhere within reason.

I agree on drilling the strut brace to fit the old holes if possible. Less messing with the car and blank holes on it will be fine.

When i get the car back i'll see how the holes line up

I know the tt brace will cover the jom holes which is y i went with tt over s3 , the s3 wouldnt cover the far hole

Then if or when comes to a repaint i'll just fill and paint the unused holes

  • Author

Or id feel the need to do like a hole circle of holes so it would look like a multi fit brace :D

do that then lloyd, motorsport stuff is often drilled for weight loss and rigidity

  • Author

Just been peeking and the tt brace collar is maybe a bit narrow except the widend parts where bolt holes are :(

That was such a good idea too

lol i will dare venture in a bodyshop when i get my car back just for fun :( see what they charge to weld or what not

When the cars home i can also see if the holes match up

If they are near would it work to just widen the holes on the brace ?

  • Author

Hehe just get it welded to the ******* car

No more holes no movement

Job

Jobbered

Until respray or colour change time

probably a lot lloyd!!!

well get the car back, then look by checking against the brace.

you could enlarge the holes but would need bigger bolts to fill, as you dont want movement if you slot/enlarge the holes.
