Aerial Connector broken 2

Featured Replies

Whilst trying to get my aux input and CD changer working (see my other thread) I've managed to snap an aerial connector. It's the one which links the head unit to the cable coming from the aerial on the car.

Unfortunately, I wasn't in a good mood once I realised what I had done and put everything back together so I don't have a photo.

The connector which has snapped is the white one hanging over the fan speed button on post #7 if that helps. To be honest, it looked like it was coming lose when I removed the head unit initially and I assumed it was supposed to hinge a little. I know better now!

So, is it fixable and if so will my friendly local Skoda dealership do this for me?

Yes it's fixable. How easily depends upon exactly which piece is broken.

At worst, you'll need to source a new FAKRA connector and find someone who can crimp it onto the cable.

If it's just the plastic bit thats broken (and the metal is fine), you can source a replacement (I know it's not a right angle one, but you don;t really need that) and just swap it over. Finding any right angle ones in anything other than neutral coding (fits and FAKRA socket) is proving to be much harder as the newer standard took over a few years ago and newer style plugs and sockets are in use now.

Looks like i'll need to do the same, as i said in my thread. im left with the copper wire of the cable, its just broken inside so the connector is intact still.

Can it be stripped and re-fitted?

The arrow shows where the cable has broken, right on the join. It looks like it's gradually weakened when the headunit has been in and out with the recent addition of an amplifier and upgraded speakers and I've managed to completely break it.

I'm guessing that I just need to find someone who can crimp on a new connector for me. I'll give the local dealers a call tomorrow I guess.
