Aerial connector broken :(

Featured Replies

hi all,

just changing my headunit to see if the cable i bought works (it does, plug'n'play ftw!) but when removing the aerial from the oem unit the cable came out of the plastic housing.

Is this fixable/replaceable or will i have to try dropping some solder in there and pushing the cable back in?

Picture would help as I can't visualise which bit has come out of what.

And which head unit?

its a Stream mp3.

I didnt take a pic but i'll find one

EDIT: Picture stolen from "hedge" in another thread.

The white plug is now seperate to the aerial lead. The copper wire has broken inside the plastic plug so it wont stay in.

Quick look on skoda parts.com and it apprears i'll need a new cable. Cheap BUT fitting will be a knightmare!

Is there no way a new connector can be fitted to the end of the existing cable? Replacing the whole thing back to the aerial seems to be a bigger than necessary job to me!

yea, there is about 5mm-7mm of copper wire stocking out the end of the cable sheething so I think i'll buy a connect like you linked to in the other thread and see how i get on.

Is there a special tool needed to crimp those?

I'm afraid it's no good asking me. I am to this sort of thing what China is to human rights! I will need to find someone who has at least a modicum of talent with electricals.

The connectors I linked to in this other thread (is there a conspiracy between you two to confuse me?) can be put onto the end of the aerial cable in place of the old one.

You will need a special FAKRA crimping tool and the knowledge / skill to be able to use it without messing up too many times an ending up with an aerial cable way too short.

Find someone who has the tools and skills and ask them to help out.

old thread i know but an update.

Ive ended up visiting an auto electric's place. They didnt have the fakra connectors so fitted a normal din connector for me but when i put my oem unit back in i'll just get a din-fakra adaptor.

Might be the cheaper option for people finding it hard to find people to fit fakra connectors
