Hi all, I have just finished installing my MFD2 - MEGA THANKS to VRStu's instructions. However following a quick test I was unable to get a 'fix' position. I think this might be because I didn't push the antenna into the back of the unit properly as it didn't seem to want to go. Can I just confirm that the correct socket for the GPS antenna is the one next to the FM antenna socket? It looked like the antenna & socket were both 'male' if you know what I mean.

Also as I have a MY07 and therefore need to swap the black and brown cable on the block connector - do these just pull out with long nose pliers?

I'm afraid I can't remember which was the correct socket for the GPS, I'm pretty sure it only fits one of them doesn't it.

You can't just pull out the terminals, you'll need to slightly dis-assemble the plug and release the locking mechanism.

The reason you aren't etting a GPS fix might be that the anteena needs to 'warm up'. Quite common on GPS devics that are used for a while.

I think it's the white one for GPS, the blue one for the normal aerial and god only knows what he yellow one is for.

Thanks for your replies fellas. I have the FM antenna in the white socket and the GPS in the yellow. The radio reception is fine. I'll pull the unit out tomorrow and try your suggestion Hedge.

They would be entitled to but you never know.

Might be... but the MFD2 has an AUX socket next to my finger which you can have video as well as only audio going into.

Actually thinking about it. The White one is existing aerial as it is strapped into the loom and the blue one is the GPS antenna which would explain the problem.

That would be my guess too. Particularly as it's yellow as well, it suggests a composite video input.

Yup I'd go with video for the yellow as well. Seem to remember you can get a DVB-T addon for the MFD2 ?

Could the yellow plug (curry yellow in fact ) support satellite radio possibly for the US market?

The FAKRA plug is generally designated as SDARS satellite. (see below) White is DAB but I assume it's also good for FM :P

Sat Radio is an option on some of the high end motors in the VW group I think. Pretty sure they use it in the US

Yes but the colour coding seems to be standard across the industry.

Swapped the gps cable to the blue socket and it works a treat now - Hedge thanks for the help. I had the "Please observe RTR" message during a quick spin though - looking at the "MFD2 is IN" thread it looks like replacing the CDr with an official disc solves that?

Mine normally shows that when I first turn the car on. It should disappear fairly quickly though. A later disc might help.
