Sudden loss in mpg....

Bit of a mixture really George. Some driving less than 10 miles and some well over and the reading just doesn't seem to want to move upwards and when it does it will be like 26.1........3 mins later 26.2 then nothing for a while etc. The exact same journeys before less than 10 and over etc were a minimum of 38mpg always. Oil temp I will check out today when i go out for a run in it. When I'm stuck in town traffic now the mpg just drops on a constant basis even had a reading of 11mpg the other day. Getting stuck in town traffic before it just dropped ever so slowly, now I can see it dropping drastically. It's literally doubling my petrol costs if not more weekly. If it carries on at this rate and Skoda will find nothing wrong (as I suspect they probably will do as they always fob me off) the car will (sadly) have to go.

Lots to do with if actually moving or stopped in traffic at lights etc.

Last night i came home 25 miles from filling up (brimming) and the car will not have used 1/2 a gallon.

Showing 62.2 mpg.

Started today and did a few miles in town, car warmed up & it is showing 28.3 mpg which is about normal,

30 mph limit and sitting at traffic lights etc. 11mph showing.

If there had been no traffic about and no stopping that is normally around 33-35 mpg.

If i sat 5-10 minutes with the engine running and the car not moving it will soon show it around 11-15 MPG.

Actually if you do not move anyplace but leave the engine running it will actually have done 'Zero miles per gallon' in about 30 minutes.

All the best with it.
