Central Locking control faulty

Featured Replies

Hi

I have had occasional problems with the following: rear locking, remote locking, alarm sounding.

Today alarm sounded 6 consecutive times, rear dors will not unlock, remote does not work, both front e/w switches now operate opposite windows (honestly) - I obviously have a faulty control unit.

My car is a 1.9tdi elegance.

If anyone can answer any of the following I would appreciate it:

Where is the control unit located?

Is this in any way fixable - reprogram, reset ?

Should I be able to find a compatible unit from any other Fabia or any other VW group car? - I know a lot of parts must be ordered with chasis No.

I realise if I get a used unit I will need to get remote or get old remote or new (used) control unit reprogrammed.

Thanks in anticipation

Colin

dealers?

Might be worth finding someone with VAG-COM/diag equiment to see if the control unit has logged any faults, as it may just be a sensor or two rather than the entire control unit? The electric windows switching sides is a known gremlin and should clear itself after an engine restart I believe....

Chris

The control unit is up next to the heater box in the drivers side foot well, kinda under the dash insert. Its a right pig to get into if its on a manual car, I usually end up breaking the bracket that hold it in place. If you replace the control unit you will need the remotes recoding. But as advised get the faults read off first.

Thanks for the advice Scooby and Lummox

Are non VAG specialists likley to have diagnostic equipment? I don't like my local skoda dealer.

The problem has partly cleared, currently the remote will only unlock the drivers door, other doors will open from switch on drivers door. Window inverted switching has cleared and alarm has not gone off.

I presume this unit is unlikley to have got damp?

Is it just one panel (under steering column) I need to rempve, or do I need to remove radio panel and surround?

If I do need a replacement unit, am I likley to get a compatable unit from another skoda or VAG car or is it difficult to get a matching unit? How will I know if a unit is compatable?

Thanks Colin

VAG-COM will help you. Where are you based, see if someone local has it.

If you local dealer is about as useful as the AC Milan defence then try another dealer.

Generally dealers are good, but there are always some iffy ones around.
