Insurance - What to do?

Featured Replies

Got three more monthly payments before my year is up so out of curiosity I went online for a quote from a different company. Currently pay £44 a month fully comp with full protected ncd on my 2002 Octy vRS. That's me and the wife. Tonight's quote came in at £26 per month :)

Now, do I cancel this late on and take the new quote, save a few quid, or hang on and hope the quote is as good come 3 months time?

Well in 3 months it should be better cos you'll have another years NCB. £54 will be made up easily with that extra year if have thought.

if you cancel with 3 months left you will get stung for a cancelation fee the later in the policy the higher the percentage i would wait and re-quote 3 weeks before your policy ends it should still be around the same amount and the quote will be valid for 1 month you could phone your insurance company and see how much the cancelation fee will be then decide good luck. insurance companies are a law unto themselves

Both very valid points, think il let it run. Not sure if the extra years no claims will matter much as I have over ten years anyway, I'm maybe wrong. The cheaper quotes have also got me looking at other cars now tho, always a downside haha

I'd carry on until the renewal date with your existing insurer.

Have a look at this- I'd try and find one of which's recomended providers at a competative price. The cheapest is not always the best option IMO. Trouble is many only fingd this out to their cost if they have a knock, just when you don't need any extra stress and problems. the scores are for New customer maximum age Customer score Which? policy score Total score

Customer score data based on a survey of 13,813 Which? Connect online community members in April and November 2012. Policy scores are based on the provider's standard policy. All policies are available to the general public. Manufacturer insurance products (Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Volkswagen, Toyota) have only been included where the insurance product is available to all drivers - not just drivers of the manufacturer brand car.

  1. Policies only available via direct sales forces and local agents and may not cover all risks or postcodes (particularly in major cities). Check on 0800 3164661.
  2. Quotes for non Volkswagen cars can be obtained by telephone only - call 0800 3167892
  3. Customer must be over 50
  4. Provider chooses from a panel of insurers, maximum age limit may vary by the chosen panel member
  5. Medical expenses not provided

How long is your £26 quote valid for? Some quotes have 90 days on them so you may be able to "bank" that now for use in a few months time.

I'd check very carefully what the cost of paying monthly is. Most company put a health premium or interest rate on it vs the pay in full price.

Skoda insurance rang me re the free 7 day policy with a new car.

Quoted £201 f/c with wifee as named driver.

Rias new quote £395. No brainer then.

I had a very competitive quote last year about 3 months before policy ran out but it was too early to buy it, apparently. I say apparently because when I came within the window to buy, guess what…? Quote had gone up by £150 :wall:

Some companies will let you buy and start on a certain date to get your custom, assuming nothing has changed by the new start date, so I suggest give the new company a ring and see what they say

I did this successfully a few year ago for buildings and contents. Sure a quote run nearer the time had a different value but the trick was to take a note of your ref number from the original quote and use this. So long as the original price was within the expiry period, in my case 90 days all should be fine.

Did you not pay a premium for paying monthly? Everytime I have looked at it, they seem to charge about 23% for the privilege.

I didn't, if the question was at me. I paid in one go. But yes, you nearly always pay more for paying monthly because they consider it to be a loan, and you pay for the convenience of having smaller payments to manage.

I'm having to start the whole process again now and it's frigging annoying.

One more year no claims? Yes.

One year older (and presumably wiser)? Yes.

Any claims? No.

Any convictions or fines? No.

Excellent, that's an extra £150 please. :wall:

Where the f**k do they get their figures from? The whole system is set up to shaft the consumer :@

Sometimes think they just pull a figure out of a hat when you ring them, it's rediculous.

I did get some quotes last year. The nearer the date, dearer it became. Explanation was that they ramped up the price the closer to the due by darte.
