i hv been offered privately a new skoda 8v 1.4 engine minus ancilliaries to replace blown 2001 AQW. i need to ensure compatibility in absence of new engine code but car is with my daughter who doesnt know a carb from a carp. new engine has injection not carb and ignition unit not distributor. can anyone tell me how to positively identify new engine. pls

Maybe a sticker on the timing belt case. Could be wrong.

Sticker in the boot under the carpet on the left hand side will have 50KW AQW at the end of the 2nd line of large text if it's an AQW.

sorry i shld hv explained that the blown engine is definitely 1.4 AQW but i hv never seen it and its now stripped down. Blown AQW has camchain not belt but i dont know if it is carb/dizzy or injection/ingnition pack setup. Possible new engine really is new in crate not in car and has injection/ignition pack. what i need to know is which setup AQW is and how to identify the new one if no sticker.

help pls.seller of new 8v engine has no obvious 3 letter code eg AQW AME etc. he has said flwg ;

alloy rocker box cover, head, block.

blanking plate over distributor position.
