Back of a fag packet sums costs of 4*4

And if route chosen with a bit care, a pleasant and enjoyable drive.

What an interesting set of responses to some idle thoughts!

I for one have found it illuminating as someone who would rather stay put than use a train, from here that is. Were I in commuter land like rockhopper I'd train it, too, but for long distance (like my frequent trips to Scotland to see elderly Freshacres) it's the car every time.

Convenience, control, privacy, a dearth of drunken yobs, no strange smells, and so on - all persuade me to use the car.

Agreed George, but there are times when going on the train is just so more convenient, such as my trips to London for a meeting. It would be even more convenient if I could catch a train locally, but by the time the meeting ends I've lost my connection back to the local station. A trip of to Ludlow to catch it guarentees I get home the same day.

And, despite Freshacre's concerns, one generally meets a very nice class of person travelling between Kings Cross and Northallerton (although late Friday evening trains going on to Edinburgh and beyond are best avoided)!

Sorry?

Beer cans rolling in the aisle and a lot of noise and aggravation has been my experience several times!
